listen to this!

I take my car (93 FD) to the local dealership to have them check my Cruise control and brake plus some other minor stuff that I could claim on my aftermarket warranty...

The car has a custom single t4 setup and no air pump. They told me that they won't touch my car because of this and that without having the airpump that it could be why my cruise control won't set the speed and why I have to double pump my brakes to get a good feel. Lack of vacuum they say....

Now I find this hard to believe, what do you guys think?

The older cars (N/A) used vacuum to actuate the cruise cable. The newer (turbo) cars use an electric motor, so I doubt that is the problem. I could be wrong.

1) If you're trying to make warranty claims and you messed with your car, you're in for a big fight, period.

2) You're ignorant to think they would look past your mods to do any warranty work.&nbsp These warranty companies will look for ANY EXCUSE to deny your claim - they are in to screw you from the start - why give them an easy out?

You could be correct and argue to them to hell, but unless you're willing to get a lawyer and take them to court over this, you gave them an easy excuse to deny any claim...

I couldn't even get the local Mazda dealer in Hawaii to do a pilot bearing job cause they saw all the colorful hoses under the hood...

I had my $500 in hand and all!

The simple fact that you have a custom T4 setup should void any and all warranty that you may have!

Besides that, you have to remember that the dealer's are pretty much incapable of working on 100% stock systems, let alone anything MODIFIED (AH, GASP!)!

I know people that have purchased modded RX7s (FDs in particular) and added an extended warranty. I've never dealt with any of this BS, but is it not common practice for the warranty company to ask about such modifications, or are they just blind to the whole situation?

If they didnt' ask you when you bought your warranty, who's to say that the modifacations weren't done before... when they sold you the warranty?

In that case, they sold you something that they never intended to pay a dime on, sounds like a lawsuit to me... but lawsuits suck.

I say just try another dealership. My dealership (when I had the seatbelt recall done... again) was cool with my 60-1 and other extensive modifications... maybe they just didn't notice. But, when it comes in sounding like mine does, and smelling like an oil refinery, you'd think they may look under the hood

Back to the point at hand. I believe the FD cruise control has its own brain box... maybe you can get one from mazda recycling.. it would be hella cheaper than straight from your Mazda shop...

just some food for thought....

p.s. Ted, throwing the word ignorant around again... its a much stronger word than you may think.

As you know; most Mazda dealerships do not have and never had mechanics well trained on the FD RX-7. It makes them nervous to work on them as that makes them liable for the work they do. They use the MOD excuse to turn you away to cover their poor asses.

One shop use to work on my car until they changed service mangers. The new one wouldn't allow work due to my mods.

What I did was publicly cuss his *** off and told him I would not come their to even buy parts again, and was going to tell all my friends to boycott the shop. About 6 months later he was gone, and the old assistant manger whom I knew was the manager and he said bring the car in anytime.

Because of all of this, I decided to learn even more about fixing my own car, and now I know more about it than most Mazda mechanics, and don't even take my car in to them anymore.

Yea right, you probably know more about the FD than the damn mazda engineers lol

Gago - Like everyone says they are scared to touch a FD in stock form and look for any excuse possible to get out of working on your FD. Some shops wont say that they WONT work on it they just tell you a price to high that you wont bring it in. I had a dealer tell me $500 for change the fuel filter cause they said you had to drop the rear end!!!!!!

Later,
STEPHEN
