Limits to A-Spec 500R

So as some of you know, I was looking at T66, but ended up finding out that he was lying about having a streetported motor.

I have found another FD with the A-Spec 500R kit on it.

ENGINE:
Engine Rebuild + Mild Port (this included NEW rotar housings, 3mm seals, etc.)
Unorthodox Pulley Set
A-Spec 500R T4 Single Turbo
A-Spec Stainless Manifold
Boost Controller (is also used as the boost gauge and fits in the a-pillar gauge pod)
Greddy Type-RS BOV
Tial 44mm Wastegate
RE-A Dual-Tip Cat-Back Exhaust System (JDM)
A-Spec Down Pipe
A-Spec Mid Pipe
RX-7Store V-Mount Intercooler Kit + Modified KOYO Radiator
Greddy Throttlebody Elbow
FDNewbie Import, Dual Oil Coolers w/ Black Setrab Cores
* Never installed WATER INJECTION KIT I will include w/ the purchase of the car

He says that the car is only around 13psi because he's trying to get used to the turbo setup, he is guessing the car would be around 340-350rwhp. He told me the 500R doesn't wakeup until around 18psi and I'm wondering what kind of numbers (on 91octane) am I going to be able to get with the 500R with the setup the car has right now?

I've done some searches and it seem most setups are stopping around 410-430rwhp.

He has the water injection kit but it's not installed. Could I just run the water injection or am I going to need to run alc or meth.

I don't think I need 500rwhp, but it'd be nice to safely run around 430-450rwhp on pump gas with just water injection.

Just talked to rich and he said that I should be able to make 430-450rwhp all day on 91 octane by just running water injection and around 15-16psi.

He said he's run 20psi on 93 octane and he expects the car to be no less than 475!

^^Those are great numbers for a 3 inch exhaust. I'm running full 4 inch. The test mule for the 500R made just over 500 at 20 psi with a 4 inch exhaust

What kind of muffler do you run and also, how loud is this over the 3 inch?

Well the owner accepted my offer for the car. Ideally, I wanted a black on black single turbo touring car, but this car was in great shape body and interior wise. No flaws at all. Sooner or later I will paint the car black and swap the tan interior.

He was asking $15,000 for the car. It has a hot start problem and worse case scenario it will need new 3mm seals in order to fix the problem. Was quoted $3500 out the door for the rebuild so I offered him $11,000. Here is the complete mods list, the car will also come with FEED sideskirts that he hasn't had installed yet.

1994 Touring Edition (moon roof, leather seats, boss sound system, etc.)
5spd Manual
about 68,000 ORIGINAL mi
about 2,000 mi on newly rebuilt ENGINE
about 2,000 mi on newly rebuilt TRANSMISSION

Engine Rebuild + Mild Port (this included NEW rotar housings, 3mm seals, etc.)
Unorthodox Pulley Set
APEXi Power FC + Commander
HKS Twin Power Ignition System
Newly Rebuilt w/ same miles on it as newly rebuilt engine.
Stage 3 Clutch and lightened flywheel
A-Spec 500R T4 Single Turbo
A-Spec Stainless Manifold
Boost Controller (is also used as the boost gauge and fits in the a-pillar gauge pod)
Greddy Type-RS BOV
Tial 44mm Wastegate
RE-A Dual-Tip Cat-Back Exhaust System (JDM)
A-Spec Down Pipe
A-Spec Mid Pipe
RX-7Store V-Mount Intercooler Kit + Modified KOYO Radiator
Greddy Throttlebody Elbow
FDNewbie Import, Dual Oil Coolers w/ Black Setrab Cores
Never installed Coolmist WATER INJECTION KIT I will include w/ the purchase of the car
Eibach Pro-Kit Springs
Tokico Illumina 5-way adjustable gas Shocks
Resurfaced Rotors
Hawk HP+ Pads
Received a completely NEW Montego Blue (same as stock color) Paint job.
R1 front spoiler
Greddy Strut Bar
Short shifter
New Miata Battery has been relocated to bin behind passenger seat (very popular location)

I have a full 4" exhaust with 2 magnaflow mufflers (20" round case i think) on the main exhaust stream. I do have a half bridge port. The car originally had an apexi n1 dual exhaust with dp/nocats on the stock turbo, it is a **** load louder than that. I might get out my spl meter tonight and get you a few numbers on noise levels.

I designed/had cnc'd a exhaust butterfly that diverts the exhaust gases through a 2.5" dynomax superturbo muffler that i managed to fit in the rear above my 4" magnaflow. With the butterfly closed it is nice and quiet. With it open it is loud. The other design that i tried that Chrisrx8pr is using is the same valve but i had some holes water jetted into the butterfly. He said it worked really well at shutting up his bridgeported rx8 w/ a 4" exhaust. I built a control circuit so that it would kick the motor on for a second when a boost switch turned on and the reversed the motor for a second when it fell below the given threshold. So far i have been to lazy to hook up the boost switch so it is just running on a toggle switch. I am pretty happy with the results.

Don't know if you would be interested in going this route but it's an option at least.

I've posted maybe 20 times on my setup but I don't mind doing it one more time

4 inch diesel exhaust with flex sections and slip sleeve clamps, there are pics in my 500R album to check out.

magnaflow circular muffler in the 4 inch midsection, and i used to run one in the back but it was LOOOOOOOOUD so I switched to an Apex'i GT spec which has a larger canister so is quieter, relatively speaking.

I usually run an ATS/spring loaded silencer which keeps things pretty damn quiet at idle and cruise, almost too quiet.

With it out I get a nice deep rumble, you can tell the car means business. I do wish it was a bit quieter for low rpm use around the neighborhood, but when I go WOT all doubts go away....... sounds phenomenal for a two rotor

best thing is, the car is emissions and noise exempt, sometimes NJ isn't so bad after all

I have the same Apexi muffler. I thought the inlet to the muffler was 3 inch though. I may just run straight down pipe on my car. I don't know if the 3 inch with be big enough for a GT35/74@23lbs. Screw the neighbors. Hah!

GT Spec is 3.75 inch, N1 single is 3 inch. The flange and 3 inch section was cut off and a short section of 4 inch was welded to the end for fitment to the flex sleeve that runs to the midsection.
