ignition timing for street ported motors
well, i posted this in the rotary performance forum, but nobody would mess with it. heres the link https://www.rx7club.com/forum/showth...hreadid=152976
thanks,
paul
thanks,

Large street port, my rule of thumb for max advance
16 degrees of advance at peak torque at 16psi
12 degress of advance at peak torque at 20psi
Interpolate to get the numbers in between or extrapolate to get numbers if you want to run higher boost.
I have found that it is safe to go beyond the above stated advance numbers beyond your peak torque RPM, this will help to flatten (keep it up and from not falling off as fast) your torque curve and boost your HP numbers in the power band.
I ran 8 degree's split on my stock motor for months, no problems, I'm running 12 now, on my Pineapple Large Street port just because it's a bit safer and I don't need the extra 20hp+ gain right now available from dropping the split.

so are you saying to basically keep it stock except for at peak torque depending on boost and to watch the split?
i had "read" on this forum that ignition should be retarded on a streetport. this captures the full benefit of the intake/fuel charge.
maybe IM retarded, haha, and im not understanding what you mean by advance.
i dont know what the stock timing is cause im not looking at it right now (take that into account). are there any to be made throughout the entire map? . . . or just at peak numbers like i said earlier?
thanks so much nocab72. . . oh yeah, i love that video of your car with the hood off and no filter. . . i cant wait to hear my car lope like that!!!!
paul
btw. . . im running a to4e (xs kit), pettit coolcharge II, with 1300s and 850s (if someone will trade my rc cleaned 550s for some used 850s). haha.

Actually there is a decent to4e map on the datalogit yahoo group (maps section) which you can use to get you started. I assume you are using PFC and have a datalogit.

PS the numbers I quoted above are retarded when compared to a stock motor advance. When you "read" that ignition should be retarded on a streetport, the writer didn't mean ACTUALLY retarded, he ment less advanced than on a stock ported motor.

okay, thats actually what i figured the deal was. . . i shoulda gone with the gut feeling, huh. haha.
yes, i do have the datalogit. . . and pfc for that matter. hahahaha.

tom, you have to own a datalogit in order to be able to access it. its invitation only. if you bought a datalogit from the makers then you should have gotten the invite.
