I need opinions on a T72 with Q wheel and .96 housing
Well.... Just like it says, i would like to see if anyone has used this size turbo and if so what were the results. right now i have a TS04 with street port and 850 pri and 1600 sec. Im making about 405 RWHP @19 PSI. I came up with this turbo kit a few years ago and although im happy with how the car feels. i feel that i should have gone with a bigger turbo. idealy i would like to be at 480 RWHP if that where possible with the most efficient Turbo setup. Im also open to suggestions, so if someone has any ideas, i wanna hear them
I was trying to sell my T72 Qtrim .96, but couldnt get any takers. Im glad i didnt though, now im stealing the Q trim wheel and putting it into my T66. I did run the T72 for awhile and hated the lag, as far as i know everone else who ran it say the T72=boost at 5K.

T66 or TO4R for that hp goal would be good turbos. Since you are shooting for under 500 you would do fine with the P trim AR .96 and have a little less lag. If you were shooting for 600rwhp I would say T72, but for 480rwhp the T66 or TO4R will actually take less boost to achieve your goal.

Ok, based on feedback and on local research, It looks like im going with a T66 Turbo with a .96 housing and a Q wheel. water cooled. Hopefully this seals the deal and i can make my Goal of Just over 500 RWHP on pump gas.
I dont think your going to make 500rw with a T66 and pump gas. I know Steve Kan used to run a T66 and made around 430rwhp on pump gas....he was running a P trim but honestly I dont think it was robbing 70rwhp at those boost levels.
To break 500rwhp he had to get way up around 25+psi of boost.
If you want to get real close to 500rw on pump gas you might need to stay with that T72 Q trim.

i made 423 @ 19-20PSI this friday with pump gas and some more tunnig. Now, i have a TS04 which is just a little bigger than a 60-1 with a p wheel an a .70 housing. I think thats where it stops there though. I think that with a bigger turbo i should get those extra 70 or 80hp im looking for.
Just got the wheels swapped over on the T66. Now running a Q trim on .96 housing. Previously running 10 psi boost i saw 17 psi backpressure on a P trim, now i see 15psi backpressure at 12psi boost. A interesting thing i did see, about 200 degree drop in egt with the Q wheel. Im up to about 21 degrees timing at 12psi and still good looking egts. However the Q is taking way longer to come on, so im working with local turbo builder on possible changing the A/R to bring it on sooner. Hope this gives you guys some more info.

Great post! I'm looking for something similar but not quite so much power. I really want a solid 450rwhp. What turbo could I do this with? Any that I can run on pump gas? I've been eyeing this:

How far could that turbo take me?
