second that, this turbo shouldn't be laggy, i know alot of people using the 55 and it's more responsive than a gt42. my cousin has 55 on his car also 1st to 3rd gear spinning 275 40 17 all day long. check it out something is not too right. nice power though

Its a laggy turbo, I was afraid of this confirmation, I'm kinda glad i didn't pick up the one someone is selling locally, 5500 is way too late for me.

Thumbs up HX turbo

Buddy of mine runs a HX50. Laggy for me, but he still hits full boost before 5k. I've seen the 50 make 680 on a FD, so the HX52 shouldn't have a problem. I think you may need to look into the exhaust housing. Everything I read and understand about the exhaust size, is that we should use somewhere between a 19-22cm^2 housing. Maybe a 18 being the smallest. You may be losing power by forcing too much exhaust into that small housing. My research was for 3rd gens, but I know my brothers T2 has always liked bigger A/R's. You might want to source a bigger hot side, throw it on, and give it a shot. Good Luck.

Oh and no restriction pills, these things like oil in them. Stock line size or the SS line that comes with most kits, and have a happy day. These turbos are also meant to be "field" serviceable as well according to Holset. Obviously the side of the highway may be out of the question, but we have rebuilt one HX-50 and a H1E, and it was quite easy. Great turbo's IMHO, hate noone uses them as much as they do.

hx52 has a 16cm^2 which is the smallest any 50 series come in and that is responsive. look into exhaust manifold.

HEY i remeber one thing with mine ..i had too much restriction in my muffler...boost was very slow to respond............I got a free flow exauhst and BOOOM
3400 rpm FULL BOOST...
see if your muffler is the culprit....

I see 10psi at4000 rpm right now on my half bridge.(untuned) I thought the hx52 was closer to a gt42. Step up to a half or full bridge? Or run some nitrous?

i am running the hks cast manifold, un-divided, to a greddy 80mm d.p to a greddy 80mm exhaust that is very open and very loud. my wastegate is dumped to atmosphere. im not sure why my boost doesnt come in early but that was the reason i bought the turbo, lots of talk about response and power. i have power, no response. i would like to turn up the boost but s.p. s4 motor would crack an iron in a heartbeat. i am thinking about getting a good divided manifold and seeing what good that does.

Nice, I like seeing more of these holset threads poping up. I have a Holset HX50 that I will be using on my S5 streetport (no dowels as well but have s6 rotors). It is a 60mm inducer, 90mm exducer on the compressor, and a 85mm inducer and 71mm exducer on the turbine. Im looking for around 450 in the high teen psi.

It would be cool to have a holset thread where we can take these turbos, measure the wheels and such.

thanks for posting this!

Got the 7 backout yesterday and the 52 is awsome! Cruising in 4th at 2500 instant 5psi and 25 psi by about 3800 ... Had a lil boost controller issue should only be hitting 15psi. Did a couple quick pulls 2 to 6500 or so in third and it pulls nicely on 8 psi. Little tuning and if its nice out tmrw im gona track it and ill let everyone know what happens.

Got the car back together last night with a nice s5 shortblock. 2k in 5th gear makes boost instantly with throttle input, the slightly higher compression is quite noticable.

Long story short, the s5 motor had 3piece seals and was a bastardized pos, cracked a seal. Tore it down streetported it and threw in some ALS apex seals. I was running 20psi on pump with 5degrees advance till 8000 and it works well. Should have it back out in a couple weeks then ill finally track it. Mayb even dyno it
