how come the t78 is so quiet?

i was just wondering yesterday, how come the t78 is so quiet compared to other large turbos? mine has a slight humming noise when coming into boost rather than the usual high pitches spooling usually associated with turbos. am i just weird, or have other people noticed this?

I've noticed this with my mitsu turbo also (TD07 though) but I do get a lot of turbine chop out the exhaust when the turbo starts to "spool up". I think it has a lot to do with how much damn racket the rotary engine makes when you have a fairly open exhaust.

BTW that is a damn nice looking FD

the t66 i used to run was quiet also just a humming sound when it was spooling nothing crazy and my exhaust is quiet

what kind of spool are you getting with the t78? the t66 was a dog its the reason I went smaller but hopefully not too small

the hks turbos have a type of collar that is specifically designed to make them scream when they spool but just get a friend to drive your car and you ride behind it and listen to the t78 out of the exhaust. it sounds like nothing else its simply amazing. just make sure you really trust the person you let drive it.

edit to reply to above post...
My t78 doesnt lag much at all. definately not stock spool but it comes on hard and fast with still plenty of rpms left. but my car is also a 1/2 bridge so that helps out some too.

CONCLUSION!!!!!> Turbo is quiet because exhaust is too loud.LOL
