i have the Bliz FMIC with a M2 radiator running 25% antifreeze, and a bottle of water wetter. I removed the two plastic radiator nose side inlet panels(the ones where the driving lights go) Made blocking plates for the front sides. Temp averages around 85C summer or winted. Even after a few 14PSI run in 4th gear. Never goes above 90. Have fan turn on temps at 86 and 90.

yea

my FMIC (22x28x2.5)blocks most (99%)of the airflow to my rad. i replaced the rad w/ the biggest full alum. one that would fit and put a large fan on it from a junk yard. i still run a little hotter on summer days with ac on and boost. i made a small lip out of the factory plastic shield underneath to help scoop up a little air. this seemd to help, but what it really needs is direct airflow.

Have you tried removing the fmic and seeing if it continues to run hot. In a lot of cases it really isn't the intercooler, but some other problems. I live in washington (which means max 85 degree days) and I can a fun day at the track and never heat up (i have apex gt ic w fluidyne radiatior).

I had the same overheating problem in my 89 T2. I had the old style greddy FMIC (not the huge v spec one that fills the entire mouth) and it caused nothing but trouble with heat issues in the summer. I got the mazdacomp radiator (its HUGE) and still i would have heat issues. What i ended up doing is building a new core that left 3 inches of fresh airspace on either side of the intercooler as it sat in the stock bumper on my car. I added plates on each side of the intercooler pointing forward that kept air forced through the intercooler, while allowing fresh air to also go around it and into the radiator. (I can post a pic later if this doesnt make any sense).

The result? My intercooler temps are every bit as good, if not better than the greddy core, AND i now have no more heat issues. My autometer guage reads no more than about 200 degrees, (or about 91 degrees C on my wolf) on 100 degree days in Sacramento.

You need to make sure you can get fresh air supply to your radiator. Blocking all airflow with a huge intercooler may look cool, but its not a very functional design as far as coolant temperatures go. Hope that helps you out some.
