HKS/XS cast manifold install question

This may sound a bit rediculous, but I am having a hell of a time trying figure out how I can get the final nut on to the turbo/manifold stud. (the stud closes to the front of the car / driver side).

I know some of you pull the motor when doing your single conversions but for those who have done wtih with the motor in the car,,,, how'd you do it? lol

Im out of ideas. I can hardly get my finger to touch the stud, no room for the nut and no way will a wrench fit there. I dont think the manifold can slide out with the turbo bolted on it or else I would just do all this out of the engine bay. I dont cut corners in a build but Im seriously considering running only 3 nuts on the manifold

Any ideas?

Bolt just the turbine housing on first.

I got the turbine housing bolted up no problem.. not I cant tighten 2 of the turbine housing bolts. One is impossible to reach, the other I may be able to after modifying a wrench. Did anyone encounter similar problems with the hks manifold?

Yes, always had to unbolt the turbine housing from the chra and attach it first to the manifold then carefully reinstall the chra into the turbine housing.

^ can you post a link for those tools? Where did you purchase them? Im still having a hell of a time reaching two of the compressor bolts.
-- I have a normal craftsman swivel but still cant manage to fit it in the tight spot. I also picked up a swivel box wrench which is also too bulky.

I've taken a couple cheap wrenches from Harbor Freight and cut them down for just these situations. Cutting them for length and grinding down the heads for clearance.

^ actually using allen bolts may be best. I can cut the allen wrench to squeeze in the tight areas. Ill try that this weekend

I just look at my setup and I have room to use open or box wrench which means ur turbo must be a bigger setup so I am not sure how much clearance u have? But you probably better off using Rob suggestion.

rxspeed7 told you how to put it on. Put the turbine housing in and bolt it, then slide the CHRA in and bolt it. Done.

^ I obviously understand the process of putting the housing on first then CHRA...... thats not the prob. The prob is that the housings as nearly touching my intake manifold and given the location I CANT reach, now, 1 bolt on the turbine housing to "bolt it down"

The cast manifold is pretty good quality but with some of these bigger turbos it really is a PIA to install compared to other manifolds I have dealt with.

Because of the size of my turbo, Turblown GT35 V I had to bolt the turbo on the manifold and then install it as a unit. It is pretty easy actually as the water lines stay on.

Did you change the studs on the block for the manifold? I initially tried this but the turbo hits the frame before clearing the studs.
