HKS 40mm Standard wastegate too small?
HKS 40mm Standard wastegate too small?
I'm running the HKS 40mm standard wastegate (10psi spring) with 3" down pipe, 3" midpipe and Apexi GT exhaust on my T04r setup. Problem is when ever I punch the gas I'm getting boost spike, any where from 4-6 psi. I'm using the Greddy Profec B Spec II. I have the gain set at 5% and boost set at .40 and I still get boost spike. I running a Marvel Speed race ported 3mm motor. I'm wondering what the problem is. Waste gate too small for my setup? Exhaust too free flowing? Any feedback would be great. Thanks...!
if ur trying to run 10 lbs....u need to put ur set-0 gain-0 set gain-0 ...to get factory settings..............10lbs
i currently have the same problem i woiuld creep to 11-13lbs in 3rd...i understand that u will get some creep.
i got fed up w. the wastegate and went to a 50mm wastegate= problem solved....i also move my vacuum source to the turbo instead of uim.....i reset the ebc...and i get a pperfect 10lbs in col cold weather

also if u look at ur wastegate u can see that the actual outlet is 40mm....but the dump is like 32-35 it soooo small ..i think thats the problem...i hear the 40mm was good 4 our to4r setups but it didnt work for me till i went to 50mm

The fuzzy logic for the Profec B Spec II is confusing at best. You have Lo Set Lo gain Set, Hi Set and Hi Gain Set. After all that you can set start boost and any number of other things. I hope this will help get you started on tuning and setting your Profec B Spec II. Read this whole document first before you go and tune. This assumes you have the Boost controller set to LBS however it works either way.
First set everything to zero. Take your car and do a couple of 3rd gear pulls. This will use your waste gate setting only. After the first or second pull just to see where you are set the low to 10 and do another 3rd gear pull (just called “pull” from here on) See where that puts you. Go up in increments of 10 until you get to the low boost setting you desire. (I wanted 13lbs of total boost so I set my low boost to 9lbs) The next step is set lo gain. The gain gets the turbo spooling. If the gain is set to low you will have boost fall off, if it is set to hi you will have boost spikes. So once again go in increments of 10 and start pulling. What you are looking for here is the spike. In my car it was only a matter of a spike of 1 to 2 lbs of boost so pay attention and make sure you are not inducing it with inconsistent throttle pulls. When you see the spike back off 5 and there you go. Next thing is the HI setting. Determine what you want for a max boost and go in increments of 10 until you attain what you want. Make sure you don’t over do it; the boost controller does not know what type of system you have so if you tell it to boost 35lbs, it will give it to you even if you only can safely support 15lbs. You may have to adjust in another increment other than 10 to fine tune the boost, which is OK. Once you have you total boost set then move on to the gain and once again go in increments of 10 until you see the spike. Drop down 5 and then do as many confirmation pulls as you think are necessary. That is what I did and it works great and I hope it will help anyone having trouble with the setting up of there Profec B Spec II.

I just got off the phone with HKS USA, and the NEW 50MM SS gate DOES NOT USE THE SAME FLANGE.
They have discontinued the 50mm gate that uses the rectangular flange.

Do you have yours vented or recirulated? I have my 40mm recirculated right now but once I switch to the 50mm I'm gonna try it vented. I just hope it isnt rediculously loud. Gonna have to modify my downpipe. I'll also probably switch the vacuum source to the compressor side of the turbo, instead of the intake manifold. I hope this solves my problem.
