That is a hard question to answer, because there are lots of factors involved (what is max boost, what gear, etc.). Would it be useful to know what RPM you can hit 10 psi at when lugging it in fifth gear on a flat surface? If so, my A'PEXi RX6 does that by 2700-2800 RPM. However mine has a slightly trimmed turbine (removed some apex seal damage, went from 62mm to 60mm), so a fresh one should spool a little sooner. It starts to build boost very low, probably in the 1500-1800 RPM range (but I haven't tested this -- it just always starts to pull when I hit the gas).

Is this a useful piece of info? Or does it fail to capture some important characteristics of a turbo system? I am curious as to what might be a good "spool test", as I am not sure my 10 psi in 5th test is that useful. I'd guess the boost controller will play a part also, so that info should be collected as well. Mine was on the A'PEXi WG spring (~12.5 psi) with no boost controller.

Heres the spool test maxcooper....

Yes ur info is very interested and accurate.

but im gonna get a lil more detailed into the question i presented... this is the spool,

ur driving along, and ur in lets say 3gear ( i dunno rex gearing) at resonable speed and u decided u wanna spool test ur turbo, well floor the car...but pay attention to what RPM it starts to spool, when it hits 1psi, that where its STARTS to spool, but when it hits MAX psi that where its spooled, u can try it in any gear 3rd i use to test mines

but thanx maxcooper

Hey Spooledup300z I'm assuming you have a tt300zx?? Do these cars have a lot of lag from the factory? My friend has a 91 tt with exhaust, intake, light flywheel, upgraded jim wolf comp and his car seems "laggy", is this common for a Z? Also have you ever seen any problems with the tach reacting very slow.
