arent you supposed to retain heat in the header for some reason? so wouldnt having a short header be better than a long one?

I thought I read that in Maximum Boost... but I forget and dont care to turn around and grab the book.

I have fit it to the car and it fits nice, I will post pics soon.....Oh and it is on a second gen, the turbo is a 62-1 divided tang and also fits good. It is accually still closer to the intake manifold than the frame or shock tower. I think the pics with only one runner gives an optical illusion.

The runner length is roughly 12", I keep hearing people say to make the length 11-13" so I made it in the middle. When I get it done I will CC the runners to see how close they are in volume.

turbostreetfighter was talking about runner length once and mentioned that longer runners can be used to get the turbos to spool up faster.

Well it took 24 mins of searching, but here is the thread: https://www.rx7club.com/forum/showth...hreadid=142292

Here is the main part of the thread I am talking about...

Thanks T. streetfighter , another question , you previously mentioned runner length being a factor , how so ? , how long should they be ? can you explain a bit more ?.

marcel - i spoke with Peter (R.R) on this a while ago, about 11inches per runner on that kinda set up, possibly 11.5inch

marcell, my runners are 28" long!!!! but get this.....on a free rev at 8100 it makes .81 bar with no load!! not bad for large twins!

Hey Marcus!
You would not happen to believe that 28" runners are little too long for a bridge ported motor?

the brake . with the short runners and smaller turbo i had to use NOS to get it to spool fast enough to cut a light.....and it pulls to 10k easily!! where could it be wrong?? oh yeah i am even using 2.5" header tubing !

If any of have been keeping up with the Mustang crowd , the trend to spool up the HUGE turbos they are running is to run the longest runners you can get away with and keep them equal, since they are only allowed one power adder they have to be creative. even Bob Riegers twin 100mm pro mod car uses extremely long runners.

Just a heads up to those making there own flanges, a mirror finish is not the best surface to have on the gasket side of the flanges, they seal best with a course machined or scraped surface that has machining marks left in it that run parralell with the bore ( ie. like honing bores you do not want to make a leak path but lots of little dams)

just thought I'd add that

P.S that manifold looks fabulous, you are very talented and look to be making a very good job

Another view.

I have not tacked the second runner in place yet because there is parts on the first runner that can't be welded with it in place.

Now I need to figure out wich wastegates to use and where to mount them. I thinking about going with the Tial 35mm's, mostley because they are cheap and with two of them, thats 70mm's of flow.

Do you all think these will work well, and hold up rotary exhaust heat hell? Still wondering about the best place to tie them into the mani?

Pay your electrial bill
I really like the finished manifold!! You could easily sell those for going market price if not a bit higher.
Two 35mm wastegates sure as hell would flow enough!! Wow!

Well my friend John the pimp *** welder got ahold of my manifold today!

It's all welded out minus the wastegate's. We bolted thick hunks of steel to both flanges and gas purged the inside of the runners. If I could get any feedback on my wastegate questions I could get thoes started.

Anyway here it is.

you should just make it one wastegate... just "Y" another flange off each running for the wastegate flange.

Ummm...ok....uh...hell no!

The reason I am running two wastegate's is to keep the exhaust runners completely seperate, so it wont loose pressure into the port that isn't fireing, thus making the turbo spool faster.

Here is John's pimp *** welds.....He is for hire if you need kick *** welding done.

That looks mad.
Did you decide where to put your wastegates?
I am currently making a manifold and am unsure what angle to put the wastegate on.
