Question 60-1 * 2

What would the power potential be for a pair of 60-1 turbos on a half bridged 13B ? , also , what turbine A/R and wheel trim should I use for such a setup ?, I already have all the supporting equipment , it should just be a matter of making the manifold and modifying mu d.p. .

I'm sure you've thought of this, but just out of curiosity, could you even get two full 60-1's to boost effectively? What kind of 'lag' (hehe... understatement of the year ) is to be expected with a setup like that?

Oh, one another Q / comment... Looking at the compressor maps for a 60-1, it looks like peak compressor efficiency occurs between 10 and 15 lbs of boost. At such a low boost level, is it really worth putting a pair of them on a 13B?

Enlighten me!

It's not just boost pressure that makes hp it's air flow also. Can you imagine how well that engine would flow compared to one with a single 60-1 turbo! If he had the turbine size figured out right I'm sure he would make tons more hp than say a single turbo running 5psi more than the twins. Airflow+psi=HP (generally)

that is similar to what i have on my race car and unless you are runing methanol and can get enough runner length. you will not be able to spool it!! but the figures are as follows......25 psi will support 800+h.p.!!! so if you can spool them and keep large enough turbine housings they will rock!! i am running 22 psi right now. i built a street car with dual 50+mm compressors and that is the way to go, almost gives you a dual powerband.

So if I want to go twin , what kind of turbos do you suggest for a street car ?

I have a semi BP

i am getting a turbo made up to put on it, it is a:
to4 1.15a/r divided housing, P trim wheel
dry CHRA
60-1 compressor wheel
0.85A/R compressor housing.

the turbo guru who is doing it for me reckons it has the potential for 650-680HP at the flywheel.

yes i will be putting a pressure guage into the exhuast manifold

A fellow racer just did that very set up!
Twin 60-1's on a 13B. It made 649 RWHP at 32psi on a street ported 13B. Boost response was very slow with peak boost around 6500rpm but the redline was 9K. The turbine section featured P-trim turbine wheels with .50 a/r housings. The turbo manifold was poorly designed being that it was just a regular single turbo manifold feeding one turbo and the other just 'T' into the collector of the first. Basically one rotor was not feeding an individual turbo.
I personaly would have made the manifold different and use a T-3 turbine section.
To each their own I guess!

So yuh sayin a pair of T3/ T4 hybrids ? , but what spes .on the coppressors and what A/R on the turbine housings?.

Although I had very limited testing I thought 2 60-1 compressors spooled extremely well with T3 stage 2 turbines. I was hitting over 20psi before 5000rpm. The sizing seems ideal actually. With changes in exhaust housings you can make them behave in almost any manner you want. It is a purpose built manifold etc. though and a bridge ported motor so results will vary.

Why go through all of that trouble man.. why not just get a big single and not have the headache of making manifold and troubleshooting a system like that...why re-invent the wheel when you can easily get something like a TO4R or a T88 that is a straight bolt up and had been tried and proven ?!?! With the port job you have, you should be able to spool those pretty nicely.

Or ..if you are set on getting twins, there is the Garrett BB optional twins or the HKS BB twins ..but I'm sure that is close to 8-10 grand USD !

There is a girl ( yes, ...a girl) in Aruba with an HKS BB twin package on her car.. when tuning the car she ran a very low 11 sec run and next to no boost at all.. I can't remember the details but I can find out if you like.

What's your're power goals ??

I already have a T70 with a P trim 1.15 a/r rear end, but I was told that it would limit power @ 25psi so I am looking at other options for now , power ......... as much as i can make reliably.

just for info,say we have a single T4,60-1 setup on a street-ported.
.60 front,.96rear,p-trim wheel,tangential undivided housing and boost set to 15 psi.how quick will spool up and on what rpm should it reach it's maximum flow?

A single should spool by 3K-4K depending on your setup.

I knew someone with one who had a crappy intercooler, exhaust and timming map that didn't hit full boost until ~5K

marcel - i spoke with Peter (R.R) on this a while ago, about 11inches per runner on that kinda set up, possibly 11.5inch

out of the discussion theme but should help.for a single 60-1 setup on street-ported s5 with 1600secondaries and standalone managment,what size or capacity intercooler do you insist?(350-400rwhp)

marcell, my runners are 28" long!!!! but get this.....on a free rev at 8100 it makes .81 bar with no load!! not bad for large twins!

i would believe it if it did not work soooo good!! the car spools faster on the brake . with the short runners and smaller turbo i had to use NOS to get it to spool fast enough to cut a light.....and it pulls to 10k easily!! where could it be wrong?? oh yeah i am even using 2.5" header tubing !




if any of have been keeping up with the Mustang crowd , the trend to spool up the HUGE turbos they are running is to run the longest runners you can get away with and keep them equal, since they are only allowed one power adder they have to be creative. even Bob Riegers twin 100mm pro mod car uses extremely long runners.

HELL YES!!!!!!!!!!!! i only have a few issues to iron out and i am there, my first gear band is slipping for some reason so i have to take the tranny out and get it checked before i go back to the track. but besides that it is ready to go and making more power than ever so i expect some decent times fairly soon.

Sorry guys !! , I am bringing this one back from the dead so that I can get your thaughts on twin T3/60-1 turbos for my semi pp motor , those DAMN GT turbos are so F@#KIN expensive !! , check out the specs.






COMPRESSOR SPECS:T04S housing

flow: 61 lbs/min 781cfm

.70 A/R housing

60 TRIM wheel

TURBINE SPECS:T3

.63 A/R housing

HIGH FLOW 76 TRIM stg 3 wheel

oil lubricated centersection.

for use with external wastegate.

due to large compressor flow, internal wasgate option not available.

COMES STANDARD WITH 360 DEGREE THRUST BEARING!!!
