help with new t04 kit

Everything is working fine except I cant keep the boost down to 10 psi. I adjusted the blow off valve all the way out and the waste gate's screw is ......well, doesn't feel like its doing anything. If I loosen it I believe it will come out. Its a xs to4s.....Oh and one more thing, to everybody that says going to a single vs stock twins you'll have more lag and its is not as streetable is.......full of it. This To4 is the ****....It starts building boost at 2500 and at 2900 Im at 10psi and 3400-3500 its at 15 and going up. I feel more power down below now than I every have. GOD I love this turbo.......now all I need is to control it.................Thanks for help.

Hi Gary,

I dunno if you have the fuel to support 15+ psi, but I would try to take it easy if I were you with your car. Anyways, I also have a t04s on my car and I had to order a weaker wastegate spring...the one that came with the kit was a 1.3bar wastegate spring and I replaced it with a 10psi spring. You can order the spring from just about anybody who sells turbo components and wastegates.

You have the HKS wastegate? Only their GT wastegate has an adjustable spring (the top screw on the gate) Otherwise make sure the screw is in tight to seal it up. Yeah and get a 10 psi spring, less if you want to control 10 psi with an electronic boost controller.

Gary,
Which boost controller are you using?

Anthony,
What color was the 1.3 spring?

I did not take the waste gate apart so I do not know the color of the spring, I do have the fuel to support 15 psi but I wanted to start slow and tune for 10 and than go up. I am using a blitz boost controller....I'm pretty sure I have it installed correctly. Oh the XS kit comes with a hks waste gate.... where can I buy a 10 pound spring...... Thanks for help.

Gary, I have the same T04S kit from XS. They shipped mine with a 10 PSI spring (yellow) inside the wastegate. Mine actually hits about 11.5 with the 10 PSI spring... go figure.

Are you using a boost controller? If so, you might want to try disconnecting it from the top port on the wastegate. This should make the boost as low as possible and would rule out controller issues.

On a side note, I just left my wastegate open to the atmosphere.... it is SO MUCH FUN to pull alongside another car and just floor it from 4500 RPM. They actually jump out of their seats because it scares them so much... hahha

My car is putting down 340 rwhp @ 12 PSI @ 6500 rpm right now. I couldn't go any more because I don't have enough fuel installed yet. I'm shooting for 400+ rwhp @ 15 PSI.

if you have a boost controller, then try to eliminat it. route the vacum line directly to the wastegate and see if it still over boosts

The 10 psi HKS spring is yellow. I have one in the garage... If you are buying a spring, and the MOST you want to control is 15 psi, I suggest getting a spring less than 10 psi. That's what I do. I have a 7 psi spring, and I run an 8 psi and a 15 psi program with my EBC. Both my HKS springs boost about 10% more than the spring rating...

just to note, u can bypass the boost controller by plumbing the lines from the ic pipe directly to the wastegate. this would effectively cause your car to run at whatever boost the wastegate spring was designed for. the boost controller cannot control boost below that limit. so, if you have a 10psi wastegate spring, you cant use your boost controller to limit your car to 5 psi (but you can sure as hell crank it up to 15 psi!). glad to see you got your boost down. maybe it's time to reinstall that boost controller and reprogramming it.
