My knock sensor does that too. It went from always showing 1 for months and months and then actually showing the knock for several months and now it's back to showing 1. I haven't figure it out yet. It doesn't seem like it would be the sensor because it is intermittent.

Mine does the same thing. What it seems to me is that it just changes sensitivity NOT under load. Mine used to be 50-100 driving regular and 20ish under boost. Now days, its right around 10 driving around that goes to the same 20ish under boost.

what do you have to do to get your knock reading, mine is still only reading 1 all the time with it occassionally reading 2 or 3 all the time. did anyone figure this out. i know i have to be knocking more than this. did we figure out what causes this?

mine's doing the same thing too..... I'll log it again tonight, but I'm trying to tune it just so I can drive it to the shop to be tuned, don't want to blow it up.

Just tune it on the safe side. A little rich and resonable timing. I do that regardless of what the knock sensor. Whats safe one day might not be with a different tank of gas. Don't tune on the edge and you'll be better off. I prefer to be a bit conservative with my tune because i don't stare at my knock sensor when i'm full throttle. Plus it works every other couple months anyways. Add some aux injection for added reliability and knock isnt an issue. It is nice to see the knock readings, but not impossible to tune without them. I would like to know what causes the sensor to read 1 all the time, then start working perfect, then back to 1. Some of us are having different symtoms and the culprit is probably different.
.
Yes the knock sensor can be replaced. Its expensive new, and used could be broken too. Test it by tapping on the engine, but that won't help if you already know you have a problem, and it wont tell you what the problem is. A new sensor would probably fix it for a lot of us, but mine works sometimes so it should be a simple fix. Maybe a loose wire on or in the sensor.

yeah I have the car set at 10 degrees and 11.5:1afr on 10psi with a gt3572r. Adding meth injection in a week or two w/hks ignition.

Thats very very conservative. You will be fine until you get it tuned. Although some tuners dont like tuning on cars without functioning knock sensors, ask your tuner if he's ok with it before you bring it to him.

yeah he saw that last time I was there, but was having problems with the car (all fixed now thankfully). I do tuning myself, bu never had experience with a rotary, so a little iffy at tuning it myself. Sorta figured out how to use fc datalogit, but still not experienced enough to want to risk my new motor.
