Have a couple questions about going single....

Ok guys here's my situation. I blew my motor about a month ago and took the car to A-spec to have the engine pulled and such. The motor is being sent to Pineapple for the rebuild and a large street port. While it's there I'm also doing the stage 3 oil mods.
Anyway. I decided to go single at the same time. (gt35/40) Parts that will be put on the car at the same time as the rebuild and the single include:
PFC & commander
upgraded fuel pump
upgraded injectors 850 primaries and 1600 secondaries
V-mount Radiator/intercooler
mid pipe
changing exhaust to the Apexi GT spec.

Once I can afford a laptop I will get a wideband o2 and datalogit, but my question to you guys that have gone single is what else do I need to think about doing.

I have thought about getting the HKS twin power and upgrading plugs is this something I should do now or can I wait a while? If I need to do this now what would be a good choice for plugs?

I did a search on this but seeing as how I'm doing so much of this at one time I didn't really find anything to help me out too much. I'd appreciate any input that you could give me. Thanks
-Nic

**edit** before anyone says it yes I have done the reliability mods. DP, Aluminum AST, etc...

wow, sounds almost exactly like my situation. my motor went out last thursday. i've already called rob at pineapple and got everything taken care of there. i've also talked to jason at the rx7store for my gt35/40 and other stuff. i have all the reliability mods, been running with pretty much all the bolt ons just waiting for it to pop. and it finally did at 80k miles. i have the same question that broken09 has. here is a list of what i have and what i plan on putting on. i really would like some advice on a clutch, and if the ignition upgradeis a must. heres what i have.
power fc & commander (need datalogit)
cw intake (dont need anymore)
m2 medium (thinking of changing to apex fm)
suspension n'stuff..blahblahblah
rp downpipe
apexi dual n1
sr ultimate radiator
ast removal
vacuum hose job

what i'm adding:
pineapple streetport w/stage 3 oil mods(wahoo!!)
gt35/40 (rx7store)
denso fuel pump (already purchased)
injectors 1600's w/fuel rail (rx7store)
apex avc-r boost controller (rx7store)
new clutch to hold the power (which kind??help??)
??ignition?? do i need it, or can it wait?
plugs?? (running 9's all the way around now)

sources are somewhat limited, only have about $4500 for the project, thank you extended warranty!!
thanks for any input, its a mess trying to get all this taken care of.

For those of you looking to do single, a lot of people overlook getting an ignition amplifier or colder plugs and those that do will see misfires at higher boost levels. Mine started to misfire after 10psi! make sure you get a B&M and some HKS plugs while doing a single turbo

What heat range plugs are you running? I am looking to get some Denso/HKS iridium and I am not sure if I should get 10's or 9's.

Unless you have $4500 after the engine then dream on.
Unless you have $4500 after the turbo then things are going to be tight.

fuel rail - 220
injectors - 200
boost controller - 460
clutch (I recommend a 4 puck for gt35/40) - 500
=$1380

Thanks guys, yeah I forgot to mention I had the clutch/flywheel already, so I'm looking at the ignition amps and plugs now which heat range should I look at,

Paximus, I don't know how you're budgeting only 4500 on stuff unless like the others said you aren't including engine and turbo because on the other parts alone I spent 4200 and I still have more to go all in all this step is going to cost me well over 10

well, thanks for the reply's guys. just so you know. the engine and turbo's will both be covered.
so i'm paying the extra. which is as follows:
by the way i just called my local mazda dealership and got the prices for a reman and stock twins
pineapple engine additional $1269 ($2200covered)
twins to single ??saved $221?? ($3921.25covered)
injectors w/fuel rail $400
avcr boost cont. $450
clutch $500
ignition & harness $450
ignition wires and new plugs $85+$100=185
additional misc. stuff $400
tuning $300
so all this equals $3733
so unless i'm missing something, which i very well could be, i'll be ok with about $700 still left if i need it. if i'm missing something please let me know. i'm doing some of the labor myself too. i still need opinions on the clutch and which plugs to run though. i have already been running 9's all the way around. and i'm thinking about the 6 puck with the sprung center. any other opinions would definately help. thanks for the help.

if your getting a single installed at a-spec, then how come they cant tell you what you need??? A-spec are all about single turbo, ask them they should know. I will be easier on you.

93redfd I only asked on here because Sean and those guys are so swamped I haven't been able to get ahold of them plus I don't think it's ever bad to have a second opinion. They do great work I just like to hear what other people have to say as well.

For the gt35/40 I recommend the 4 puck from ACT or some equivalent. the SS from ACT is not capable of holding the power and will burn up quickly. Ask no cab or vosko if you don't believe me.

4 puck seems alittle bit harsh. i would try a 6 puck first, and then if you needed more grip then a 4 puck. the last 4 puck car i rode in was almost unstreetable.

6 puck is what i use and I made 404rwhp and 365 ft lbs of torque. Make sure you get the HD pressure plate as well. I have the same turbo. See my Sig for what parts I am using.
