My daily driver broke so I'm using the FD now and can't do any work on it.

I have all the parts, just need the time to put it together.

What turbo is that in the picture? It looks like a TO4z from what I can tell.....but that nut on the compressor wheel and the small slit on the compressor cover is usually on the HKS turbo's.

Thanks

^ TDX61 with a ported shroud. Same turbo that is the topic of this thread.

BTW, AFAIK that compressor wheel nut is custom.

still no updates sorry my dd blew the head gasket at 233k miles (2000 mazda protege) so I'm having it repaired and daily driving the FD for the time being.

the second TDX61 pictured actually has a custom intake on the compressor cover that Turblown offers, mine has the stock compressor cover. Both are ported shroud but the custom one SHOULD have smoother intake flow due to extending the shroud. Look closely and you'll see. The compressor nuts are also custom by Turblown.

nice turbo setup. i dont remember seeing this thread when it was started. with the ptrim wheel and 1.15 housing you should have no problem getting to 30psi. no sure if it will make it that high compressor wise. but garretts new design is good so it might. it will be close that is for sure. on my 35r cast style it ended at 22psi any more boost it would still make the same power.

as for the billets they are great setups. on 15psi you will see the same if not a little less then a normal cast 61. once you pass 20-22psi that thing will wake up. on my precision billet 6765 i made 395whp at 18-19psi and then 473whp at 22-23psi it jumped up quiet a bit after 20psi.

Probably the best street turbo option out there. 550+rwhp with very fast spool

^The stage V turbine is smaller than the P-trim wheel (2.797 inducer, 2.437" exducer VS. P-Trim 2.921 inducer, 2.543 exducer)

Plus his compressor wheel is the newer, higher-flowing billet model from Garrett.

Cool.. I thought you would reply I was just curious on the specs and all that stuff... So are they both considered 3582s? the last two digits are the diameter of the compressor exducer?? is that correct? but the x has a newer design compressor and the p trim is slightly larger turbine like stated above? If i am on the right page the stage V should spool slightly quicker but not have as much up top? please correct me where im wrong... (probably all of it). Im just still trying to get more familiar with all the nomenclature and how differences affect things.

thanks

Yes to all your questions. In a 4th gear pull on the dyno they will spool within 50 rpms of each other, but transient response is slightly better with the stageV Gt35R. StageV Gt35R is basically same wheels sizes a Garrett's GT35R. We just offer that turbo to A) be able to get a journal bearing GT35R, and B) get a true T4 turbine housing.

TurboBlown, Have you tested some of the smaller Borg EFR turbos? It seems like the 8374 which is a 62.6mm turbo (vs the gt35r's 62.5) seems to have a slight advantage in flow, and seems to have an edge on technology used. Reference on the two turbos compressor maps for those too lazy to look it up for themselves:

The Borg EFR 8374 compressor map:

The GTX35r compressor map:

Once I get done with my build and have a bit of time to let my wallet recover I am planning on picking up a an EFR 9180 and see what it can do. A 67mm turbo that flows 94lbs/min seems very appealing.

I've been asked to in the past, but you can never get your hands on those turbos..

I have some more billet options coming in about 3 months, that will be backed up by flow maps. Wheels will also be available individually. First one will be a billet GT40 with a 68mm compressor wheel.. Should be the biggest one would ever need on the street...

Good luck with trying to get the 9180...I was trying to purchase that turbo, but they said I wouldn't be able to get mine until around May 1 (tentative date) of this year, this was when I tried to order in early January...I didn't have that much time to wait so I just ordered the Precision 6766 which ironically I'm still waiting on to come in since Precision is waiting for the shipment of turbines to come in.

Yep, that's the same reason I went with a to4r/z for now, it was a 4 month wait when I called before starting my build. If I didn't have a friend that was upgrading his rhd fd that offered to sell me his low mileage to4r with full turbo back exhaust for $800 I would have gone the the same precision turbo you did. Hopefully Borg will get better in production with the EFR turbos soon

Which one...the 9180?!?! If so, I might see if I can cancel my order since it hasn't shipped out to me yet.
