GT35R T4 oil drain line

I have the GT35R T4 hybrid. The problem I am having is with the oil drain line. If I setup the oil drain line so that it's coming out of the bottom side of the turbo, it hits the turbo flange. The was not a problem with my 60-1 turbo. The oil outlet on the GT35R seems to be set back a lot further towards the tubine housing. The only way to run the oil drain line is somewhere between 45 degree and horizontal. Has anyone else encountered this problem? Will the oil drain properly if it's setup sideways as opposed to straight up and down? I could take some pictures tomorrow if it will help. I am in the process of contacting Aspec about this problem but I thought I would ask here on the list in case other people are having the same problem and might already have a solution.

Josh

I did email him last night and he responded to me almost immediately. I was curious if anyone else has run into this issue. I also wanted to know if the oiling system can be run horizontally or near horizontally without causing damage to the turbo.

I had the same problem with my gt35r with the t3 flange. I had to clock the turbo close to the 15 degrees to get the oil return line to clear. It should be pretty close with the t4 flange.

I had the same problem as you guy's, I used some of the stock oil line flanges a 3 inch pipe and some fittings, silver soldered it all together. I had to keep the flange and the pipe coming off the turbo at about 15 degrees to clear the houseings, It is a tight fit. I have to thank my good friend Darryl for all his help and the use of his machine shop.

Just wanted some clarification. You purchased the A-spec GT35R kit and it was necessary to fab a different oil line to make it fit? I'm about ready to order from them and was "concerned".

I put the kit together myself, I bought all my parts local to me(Toronto Canada).
I don't think there is a issue with the A-spec kit. My set-up is a little over kill, I'm
using the car on the track and I really wanted to avoid problem's.

OK, your kit is not from A-Spec. What about Silver7, Crazyrx7 and Gonzz, do you guys have the A-Spec kit?

You do not need to fab anything with our kit With the 35R the Centre section is shorter which places the drain further back. This is with all the T4 housings I had made. Our oil drains get around this problem. Keep in mind that is for our positioning though. As you clock the turbo you drain may need to change in angle and position.

I looked at those as well from APT but ended up taking the stock return pipes from the twin's apart and just using the flanges with fittings welded to them.

Same here, except I just slid -10 braided over the stock flanges and clamped.

I have the rx7store kit. Like I said all I did was clock the turbo slightly just so that the oil drain line clears. Its around 15 degree or even less.

Do you have a picture of what you did? Are you using AN fittings with braided lines or just a nipple with rubber hose? Everyone is making it sound really easy but I had a hell of a time trying to get anything to work reliably (track use).

I will have mine cut and do an elbow although mine does clear by a few MM and I didn't know 15deg should be the max angle (good to know). I also want to run SS lines, so will acomplish that as well as more clearance. On the intake oil line side I replaced the "L" fitting with just a short strait aluminum one. My other fittings had bad threads, so I replaced those with aluminum ones to. I also got a blanket from Australia and will heat coat the housing and I have a heat shield all for the hotside. I can't find the pics but will post when I do.

Jim,

Where did you pick up that oil drain pipe? I really like that one...

Thanks,
