group buy on wide band O2?

Do you guys think it's possible to get enough people together for a group buy on a wide band o2 setup? I'm not sure which company would be the best? Any ideas?

I have been looking at the FJO at Alamo motorsports
http://www.alamomotorsports.com/prod..._wideband.html
I am about to order on but if we can get something going I would wait a couple of weeks.

I might be interested as well... factors for me include price and the "BS factor" (in other words, I don't want to wait 3 months and have to make 12 phone calls to track this thing down).

That setup looks pretty sweet.. but I dont know whats what. If it's a good system I'm in. I just talked to Ryan Scott and he is going to see if Jason can hook us up with something. Has anybody talked to this company? If we can get a number of how many people are interested than one of us can give these guys a call and see what they can do. If I was to get this system I would buy the system for $750.

Well, lets do this soon. I am ready to go. If we don't get something going within the next week I will be buying one on my own so let's roll on this.

Just a follow-up...

I would want the digital display AND the datalogging kit.
Just so you guys know... there are several options. Datalogging is not part of the standard kit. Neither is the digital display. You can use a palm for viewing the A/F... but I'd rather have something permenantly installed. Also being able to do some nice 4th gear pulls to check the A/F would be nice. I think this would be very valuable for different seasons. I know when my car was originally tuned (summer) the A/F was 12.5... I went back to the dyno in October and it was 13.3!!

Datalogging is a must for this. Good luck trying to watch the A/F as you're doing 130 on the highway!

If everyone were interested in the same options we might get a slightly better price... just a thought.

Who has the lead on this group-buy? A post in the lounge may draw more attention... and ultimately get us a better price.

I have been told that FJO doesn't support group buys...
but I have some pricing which knocked a few dollars off depending on quantity.

Here's what I've come up with so far.
See e-mail below:
---------------------------------------
I'll include the list of kits and my normal prices, then in parentheses are the 5-kit/10-kit+ prices (xxx/xxx). These are based upon total number ordered, mix-and-match. If you want me to ship each kit to a separate destination, I'll do that for an extra $10 per kit. There's not a huge discount on the group buy because I'm already selling the kits at a very minimal mark-up.

KWB0020 (red display) KWB0021 (green display) Wideband O2 Sensor kit with digital display -- $695 (670/660)
Includes:
CWC0002 wideband oxygen sensor controller
SO20001 wideband oxygen sensor
DWB000x red or green digital display (specify red or green color preference)
MWI0001 installation manual
IWC0002 installation kit
HSB0001 O2 sensor bung
With this kit you can later buy the Connectivity kit and have full data-logging capability like you would if you'd bought the data-logging kit up front.

KWB0140 (red display) KWB0141 (green display) Wideband O2 Sensor Datalogging Kit with RPM/5-volt and digital display -- $870 (845/835)
Includes:
CWC0002 wideband oxygen sensor controller
SO20001 wideband oxygen sensor
MSW0101 connectivity kit
DWB000x red or green digital display (specify red or green color preference)
MWI0001 installation manual
IWC0002 installation kit
HSB0001 O2 sensor bung

KWB0130 Wideband O2 Sensor Datalogging Kit with RPM/5-volt (no digital display -- rely on your lap top or PDA for display*) -- $725 (700/690)
Includes:
CWC0002 wideband oxygen sensor controller
SO20001 wideband oxygen sensor
MSW0101 connectivity kit
MWI0001 installation manual
IWC0002 installation kit
HSB0001 O2 sensor bung
* I recommend the digital display as a way to know at all times what's going on with the AFR (if you don't plan to keep the lap top or PDA connected all the time).

KWB0060, Wideband O2 Sensor Kit for ECU (i.e. AEM, Hondata, etc.) integration -- $530 (515/505)
CWC0001 Wideband oxygen sensor controller
SO20001 Wideband oxygen sensor
MWI0001 Installation Manual
IWC0003 Installation Kit
HSB0001 O2 sensor bung
---------------------------------------------

If anyone can get better pricing let me know.
As the e-mail states... to have it shipped directly to you it will cost an additional $10.

Let me know what you guys want to do.

Group buy sounds interesting.

Please clarify an issue for me. It is my understanding that the O2 sensors are expensive and only last something like 200 hrs. Is this true in general or all kits?

If so, then do people just use their "regular" O2 sensor for daily driving and only use their FJO O2 sensor when doing some "testing".

Finally, is the FJO O2 sensor thread size the same as the OEM sensor?

thanks,

Ramon

I did talk to Jason, he has no problem with us doing this group buy. So whoever is running this, fell free to go right ahead.

Jim,

If those are the best prices, I am definitely in for one of those kits. Let me know when we have enough people.
Thanks,

Ed

I just called Alamo and talked to Graham and he didn't know anything about the group buy or what ever we are calling it. Jim, who did you talk to and do we place the orders through him? If it's all good I will order one next week. Also I got the number to FTO (the manufacture) if you have any questions, it is (204)-254-5623.

Those are the prices that I've been given. It's not really a group buy since he told me that FJO doesn't offer group buy discounts... but his prices are still the lowest I've seen. And since we have group numbers he's knocking about $35/per unit if we have atleast 10 people.

I am working with Steve Hayes... he's sold quite a few on the Supra Forum. He is a distributer direct with FJO... yes we would be buying directly from him.

To answer Ramon... the kit comes with an O2 sensor. I haven't heard any issues with the life being shorter than the standard O2 sensor.

The FJO sensor is always running... therefore the O2 sensor is always in the car... which is exactly th point. So you know what's going on ALL the time.

The kit comes with a bung which you will have to get welded into the down-pipe. The sensor screws into the bung.

I hope that answers all your questions. Please get the word out so that we can get a final number of people who are definetly in.

Thanks,
Jim

I want to be in on this buy but still on the fence.
Is there anyone running this unit? Is there any sort comings? As mentioned above I realize that the KWB0140 or KWB0141 is the most capable kit.

Has anyone look into the Motec unit? I heard that the Bosh sensor for the Motec unit can be acquired elsewhere for much less.

I just got off the phone with Motec and here's the scoop.

He said he would work with us on pricing for a group buy... if there were enough people. He said a minimum of 10 people.

The one issue we might have with the Motec unit is that it doesn't datalog per-se. There is an analog output (0-5V) which plugs into their datalogger (how convenient huh?). Anyway... I told him that datalogging on a PC is very important and that if they were able to come up with some software that would do it for us that we'd definetly put him in the running with the FJO. He said he'd look into it and I have a sneaking suspicion that there is some software in the Motec library somewhere that will do what we want.

Anyway... I'm going to call him back tomorrow for pricing and the low-down on the datalogging.

The plusses... it's a Motec! The display is smaller and made of brushed aluminum which looks awesome.

Stay tuned...

To answer your questions... yes, there are many many Supra guys (single turbo) that are running the FJO. They love it. They say that anyone with a single turbo who doesn't have a real-time A/F meter is crazy. They say that the A/F's can very huge amounts without changing any settings on your electronic fuel controller (stand-alone).

I honestly don't think we can go wrong with either of these units. I'd love a Motec simply because it's a Motec and looks a little nicer... but I'm not that picky. Ultimately I think that both units are damn near equal in performance. Right now it's coming down to the pricing and datalogging for me.

Peter,

I haven't gotten group pricing yet... but the major issue seems to be the ability to datalog. There is an analog output (0-5V)... but no software to interface it to a PC. It interfaces to the Motec datalogger... which ain't cheap!!

I have seen the PLM advertised for around $1200. I'd like to see group pricing under $1000... we'll see though.
If it can't datalog... I'm not interested.

Do you have any experience with the Motec unit?

1695 or anything above a grand is going to be too much for everyone here,I think.
