GReddy T78

Hello! I'm still a newbie in the single turbo world, I'm reading a lot on the forum to build the best set-up I can with what I can pay. I currently have a 13b-Re engine with an aggressive street port , RA superseal 2mm, and I'm looking for a turbo to attain between 400 and 430 whp on pump gaz.

A guy around here as a rebuild GReddy T-78 for sale, with exhaust manifold and GReddy wastegate, and I would really like to know if it can suit my goals, or if I'd better wait to buy something better. I'm really not in a hurry, as I have plenty of projects going on. I'm buying one item at a time, and turbo time is comming...

It it for a street car that will probably not see any track. I don't really bother with some lag, but would like a progressive spool, not an on/off turbo.

It is a slow build, really slow build, I want to do it once, so any help would be really appreciated.

Thanks

taking it slow is a good approach

if you are looking to make 430 tops you want a turbo that makes about 60 pounds per minute of air. anything from a GT35 or smaller will work. if you look at my sticky thread in this section... you want a compressor wheel in the 6 average square inch area. a garden variety GT35r would work well.

the T78 has 7.584 sq inches and is really a mismatch. in addition, any rebuild could be problematic.

w the advent of the GTX3582r numerous regular GT35s should be coming on the market and the classifieds are a great place to look.

i do recommend 300-400 CC/Min of AI water injection at 400+ to cool the motor and eliminate carbon build.

good luck,

howard

Thank you for your reply, I will not buy the T-78 turbo then. But I have another questions if I may.

You stated that a rebuild turbo could be problematic, but redirected me in the classifieds. Is a used turbo with no shaft play better than a rebuild turbo? And why?

If not pushed hard it would be alright.

A friend of mine is selling a lightly used 35R, but the turbine housing is rather small and you would need to invest in something a little larger. If youre interested in it shoot me a PM.

Thank you, but I'll wait to find one already on specs. As I said, I am absolutely not in a hurry, I am collecting everything I need slowly. I really appreciate your offer tho.

I don't want something that is not that bad, as I want to do it once. I am on a budget, I want to plan exactly what I need precisely. I know I will pay well over my "planned" budget, but I don't want to double the price by experimenting something that is not on target.

I know a T-78 can be lovely, but probably not for my goals...
