It looks like a split tang turbo which is always good. Do you have a split manifold?

Just bought this manifold from australia. My first gen is RHD so I needed a custom one because steering box issues.. Pic of the manifold attached. It's still in transit from Aus.. Should i get this turbo for 175.00 shipped?

The exhaust housing is a T4 flange so it should work with your manifold. It also looks like a P trim exhaust wheel.
You should find out what the A/R is for the exhaust housing. If it's a 1.00 or .80 it should be pretty good and responsive. But it looks like a diesel turbo so the A/R could be 1.15 or 1.32, which would be a bit big and would have lag.

Yeah I have a 1.15A/R turbine housing on my T04B and that looks even bigger. Also the casting on those parts looks terrible. Aside from that, you will probably have a really difficult time finding a shop that can weld the V-band flange on the back of that housing, becuase it is an extremely difficult and intricate process to weld to cast iron. I am getting rid of my 1.15 because it has an open back like that, and getting a 1.00. I was quoted between $100 and $200 to have the welding done, which is basically the cost of a new housing anyway. That was beside the fact that they couldnt gurarantee their work because the welding was so difficult.

Are you serious?

My buddy has welded lots of V-band flanges to exhaust housings using his TIG welder and it's not that hard!
And yes, the casting looks horrible on that exhaust housing!

Is your buddy a really good, experienced welder? If not, and he just threw it together... then it definitely was not done right. When cast iron is welded, you need to get both pieces totally red hot while they are being welded together. You also have to use expensive high-nickel rods. That is just for a cold part, not something like a turbine housing that sees huge temperature changes very quickly. The shops that I have talked to were extremely reputable, experienced shops. They said that they could do it, but it would be expensive, and they couldn't guarantee that it would last. You would be better off getting a new housing that has had the flange welded on by a turbo shop that does it all the time, or one that was machined in.

Well if he is experienced with that sort of thing, why would it suprise you that doing that sort of welding is incredibly difficult?
