FMIC...when?

When exactly would a FMIC be needed in modding a TII? Like would it ever be needed on the stock turbo? Be needed as soon as a bigger turbo was put on? Thanks.

I run 13 psi through my stocker with a hybrid turbo. You can't stay in boost very long like that, i.e.: no long 4th gear runs under boost...

So I would want to look into one after I upgrade my exhaust/intake? I like to be safe first so I think thats when I would add one. How much boost could I run on the stock turbo with a ported wastegate and a fmic do you guys think?(assume I had enough fuel)

It depends on the pressure drop through the IC. You want to keep the stock turbo around 13 psi or so to keep it from superheating the air.

If you have a good FMIC that has little pressure drop, then you could run around 13 psi. But if you have a less efficeient one that has, for example, 2 psi drop, you'd be seeing 11 on the boost gauge, but the turbos running 13 because of the pressure drop.

Keep in mind the stock compressor is not very efficent at such boost levels. My hybrid is a simple compressor wheel upgrade and turbine wheel clip and it absolutely ***** on my stock turbo

That's a great website Ted. It has been added to my Favourites for later browsing when I have a bit of spare time.

I like your website. But I plan to upgrade a little differently. I want to go like this:

1. gauges
2. intake
3. upgrade fuel(injectors/s-afc/pump/fcd)
4. exhaust
5. TID mod
6. port wastegate
7. boost controller
8. upgrade compressor wheel
9. fmic
10. full turbo upgrade
11. ems

What do you think of that? I already have a brand new fluidyne radiator and am going to add a BOV and e-fan in there somewhere in the beginning.

I'd port my wastegate before or at the same time as the exhaust. Those things are very very small.

Alright I will put porting the wastegate up there. Does it look good and safe from there? Thanks.

Sure, that'll work...
I wrote up that page as a guideline, not an absolute authority...

It's a pretty good figure to go on I have the TURBOFLO CAT from RP and I'm getting through emissions and close to 300 BHP at 12 PSI of boost, Pre cat replaced by DOWNPIPE.

EMS should not be number 11 unless you feel like having numbers 12-20 being new engines.

The S-AFC may be sufficient for fuel dial up requirements, turbo size and injector size are the key to this.
