Well the only reason I built my exhaust that way was due to cost and me being a DIY extremist. I built that header way back at the end of 2008. Rotarygod had a thread discussing the pros and cons of the design so I thought "why not" build mine this way as a cheap experiment. I also had a local water jet place cut those 1/2" thick flanges from a pattern I gave them.

so off topic but im adding exhaust ports to rx8 housings to make use of some old 12a parts and can weld in alum pipe for the peri intake and exhuast, but was at a loss on how to add a steel sleeve...without welding it to the inside steel liner... this is much better. stolen!
