So I'm coming to the end of my single turbo build which consists of a BWS362, vmount, AEM series 1 ,etc etc. One of the last parts of the puzzle is the intercooler piping. Pretty much need of all of it, from the turbo to the intercooler and the intercooler to the Greddy elbow.
My tuner/fabricator is about four miles away. All city roads with about a 25 MPH speed limit. Would it be possible for me to drive the car there, out of boost, very light on the gas, to his shop? I've done a little bit of research and did read a little about free-spinning the turbo, that's one of my very largest worries.

So wha'ddya think?

 

You'll be fine. If you're worried about it, pull the wastegate spring and clamp an piece of pipe on the compressor outlet and crush it down to create a bit of a restriction. But with the drive you described, I wouldn't bother.

 

And stick some kind of filter on the intake elbow.

 

Turns out everything fit so well by chance that I can just use silicone couplers to join my generic provided piping.

 

Even better.

 

What about moving the car with no downpipe?

 

I used PVC piping as a *temporary* measure to get my car to the shop for IC piping fabricating.
It worked (but only barely).

starting it yes, trying to drive it is a bad idea. its like taking a blowtorch to whatever the exit of the turbo is pointing at.

 

No downpipe would be a bad idea.

Thats straight exhaust hitting whatever in your engine bay. Talk about some high under hood temps.

 

Definitely will take your two opinions as fact. I'll just idle it with no downpipe at most. Just to check everything is not leaking as I've changed so many things.
