do you ever find yourself needing oil?

I find that I need to fill a lil oil up a bit every couple of hundred miles or so. Do you guys find your oil level going down a bit once in a while

Depending on what you mean by a lil oil. Top it off, a pint, 1/2 quart, 1 quart? I put 156,000 miles on mine and never needed a quart between changes-3,000 miles.

Yup, depending on how hard you drive the car, some people report needing to fill nearly a quart/1000 miles.

Our engines actually inject oil into the engine under heavy acceleration. The more you are "on it" the more oil you will use.

You may also want to check your undercarriage and check for oil leaks, but "a lil" every couple hundred miles sounds acceptable, unless your "a lil" is significantly more than my "a lil"

hmm....rotaries are SUPPOSED to burn oil. Both my 79 and 95 RX-7s have consumed oil at approximately the same rate -- 1 quart every 1500 miles or so. If you are not consuming any oil, there is something wrong.

I would say a quart every 1500 miles sounds about right. I had 20w50 in there now i put 10w30, but the weather is still like 80s now.

I fill to the F. In my head, F = FULL.

I guess if you want to fill 1/2 qrt shy of full, you can fill to the middle of E and F.

Lets say the total oil capacity of your oil system is 6qrts. It's probably somewhere around there I don't have the specs around me to look up. Anyways, but filling 1/2 way between E and F, you are shorting yourself 1/2 a quart. That is approx 8 - 9% of your total oil capacity! If this caused you to run 1/2 that percent warmer (4 - 5%) due to less oil to cool your systems, I wouldn't be surprised to find a "why is my engine over heating?" or "why are my oil temps so high" thread from you...

Actually, the difference between L and F on an FD dipstick is almost 2 quarts (1.7 I think)! Fill it to F.

For each % of oil shortage, doesn't equate to a corresponding rise in engine temp. If your experiencing overheating problems, best describe the conditions and hopefully receive some return comments.

Turbonut: each % of oil shortage DOES equate to a corresponding rise in engine temp. It CERTIANLY isn't 1:1, but it does correspond to a point. And beyond a certain other point of shortage your engine just seizes.

I know, my little sister ran her turbo Sunbird out of oil back in HS.
