hybrid?

I have an 87 TII. My hp goal is somewhere around 300-350. I plan on getting the RB Complete exhaust which claims to add 5-6 psi. My question is should i look into a hybrid turbo or will that still be too much for it to handle? If i was to buy a new turbo what would be ideal? (considering my goal and the fact that I'm a student with a small budget). Thanks for any help.

Several different hybrids can certainly make 300-350 FWHP.

One friend's stock S5 engine/intercooler'd car put 290 to the ground with an upgraded compressor wheel in a modified stock housing. Full intake/exhaust and haltech/fuel system as well.

Another stock S5 engine/intercooler'd car with same fuel system but full compressor wheel/housing combo dipped into the 11's on slicks, in a FC.

Knight Turbos

I don't have any personal experience, and I'm not really into using hybrids, but I have heard great things from Knight Tubos. They allegedly have a very nice upgrade package for the stock t2 turbo.

Here is their website. Too bad they are on a Geocities server and don't have unlimited hits... their site has exceeded the amount of visitors for today (or whatever time frame they set it for, i dont remember). Maybe someone has their phone number and can post it.

Wish there were more specifics available for the 2 hybrids I mentioned. Both were second hand and never 100% identified as far as I know.

I feel confident that a 60-1 hi-fi setup would work well.

If the compressor wheel only setup is pulling solid 12's on the one car, and WHATEVER full compressor wheel/housing setup that was in the range of a 60-1 was in the 11's on slicks..... It'd be in the ballpark of FUN

I know that if it was pushed hard on a stock port motor a clipped turbine wheel could help top end power greatly.

A 60-1 hifi is a full t04 framed turbo with a t4 exhaust side... I have however seen the hifi compressor housing and wheel on a S5 turbo... that spells fun (if you're into hybrids )

Looking at turbonetics site...60-1 and 60-1hi-fi are 2 different compressor setups, both the wheel and housing are different and available seperately. That's what I was going by when specifying 60-1Hi-fi as a compressor side combo "setup" to build a hybrid with.

What are the specs on a "60-1HiFi turbo" referring to the whole setup? I can't find a specific turbine housing/etc that is defined by just "60-1HiFi"

EDIT: I dug around and found a package price, so I see what you were looking at. I'll have to find something else to pick on you about, since you were picking on me!

I a 60-1 hifi has a 3" inlet and a .60 a/r on the compressor housing. A full 60-1 has a 4" inlet and a .70 a/r on the compressor housing.... but, the hifi flows something close to 95% of the air that a full 60-1 flows.... yes, the housing is smaller on the hifi, i wasn't arguing that point... wait, I wasn't arguing anything

Russell, the hybrid I was using for the high 11's was a AiResearch T04E compressor housing in a .60 A/R size. This is the largest you can go I have heard and have it bolt in completely like stock and fit just like stock. I know and have seen hybrids with 60-1 and 60-1 hi-fi compressor housings before though.
