Question DIY Single Turbo Setup Help????

Hey guys,

I'm lloking into getting a T04R and was wondering what all is involved in the setup? I am a newbie to single turbo setups, and would like to know what parts I need to complete the setup.

I know I need a exhaust manifold, DP, but am not sure about all the flanges oil lines, clamps, etc.

If anybody can give me a full parts list of what I need it would be much apprieciated.

James

Need turbo, manifold, downpipe, wastegate, dump pipe (if you intend to vent the wastegate back into the downpipe) Vband clamp for turbo>downpipe. You will need either flanges or Vband clamps for both the wastegate and the dump tube. You need a oil feed lien for the top of the turbo. Also the oil return line from the bottom of the turbo. The gaskets for the turbo manifold and the wastegate. Might have to replace the stock exhaust studs and gaskets. Air filter for compressor housing. Lastly you need the hardware (bolts) to mount the turbo to the manifold. Most wastegates come with all the bolts already.

Why are you considering getting a T04R? I mean, that is a pretty big slug. How much power are you trying to make? For rotary engines, I would consider getting a smaller turbo that spools more quickly, like a TD-0625G. Yes I know, that turbo is dwarfed by a T04R, but the throttle response is much better. I am not saying switch to a TD-06; I am using it as an example. You can use a moderately sized turbo, as long as you can correct the timing, fuel maps, etc. to your specific application. That way, you can still get a near equivalent, not to mention usable power band. Do you really want your turbo to go full spool at, say 5000 rpm? I know I wouldn't. The best advice is to get a reliable engine management system, and tune it from there .

I don't understand why you guys worry so much about responsiveness.. The only place it hurts is from a dig. I can make up for lag anywhere else in a lower gear..

My TO4R is destructive anywhere above 4K.. That's normally where I drive anyway..

Somthing small such as a Tdo6 would have no top end and would die off just when things get interesting.
Bahh humbug.
