Davinci's AF61r at 13-14lbs - Had a few problems, but look at the numbers.

These are the Known Problems we can into while using the dyno:

-Exhaust Leak from Turbo Manifold (no gasket was present)
-Spark Plugs were fouled up pretty good
-No O-ring between throttle body and elbow (leaked under boost)

This was a run at 13-14lbs of boost. I believe it was 13 and it creeped it's way up to 14. Either way.... not bad for a 13psi run with a leak... I am very impressed with the AF61r's ability.

Stay Tuned... 22 psi runs will start on the 5th, the problems are being fixed. I should see around 530hp, maybe 550hp.

This was a pretty rough tune, by no means anywhere near complete.

Looks like VE (torque) is ever increasing all the way to 7k?! Is that just a streetported REW engine? I'm not familair with the AF61r, what are the specs on the turbine side (M dia, m dia, A/R).

Moremazda and I were working with Darren trying to get his issues sorted out this weekend but it was one thing after another and we just ran out of time. Very frustrating for all of us. We have a laundry list of issues we're going to tackle before taking it any further.

That's not everything she has. Not even close.

A few more details:
- We tried RTV on the throttlebody/elbow as a temp fix but that was no go. After a 4-5 pulls it started leaking again. The leak was pretty significant...I was in the car but theys said there was a nice methanol mist coming out of the split line.

- That was 91 octane + methanol

- We had the AVC-R turned off but it was creeping the entire time. The gauge looked something like this:
3700 - 7 psi
6300 - 14 psi
7000 - 15.5-16 psi (it shot up quick right before we lifted)
That's why the torque curve didn't peak out earlier...just not enough boost to make the torque in the low end. We need to get control of the boost before we keep going.

- The AFR's were fat as hell. The midrange was in the 9.X area for alot of the run. You can see the effects of that between 4500-5000 on run 9. The wideband was pegged rich. At 5700+ leaned out just enough to get into the low 10's...still not pulling cleanly. Peak power was at roughly 10.4:1. Nasty. With his 850/1600 combo and 1400+cc's of methanol the Power FC won't let me pull out enough fuel while using the standard 0.20 lag everyone uses for 1600's. After tying up all the loose ends on the car I'm going to have to pull the lag on the 1600's back in small increments until I can get it to lean out to the low-mid 11's. I also believe he said he's running 42 psi base fuel pressure. We're going to drop it to 36 psi. Besides helping me lean it out that will give his single Cosmo pump a little longer legs.

Yep, that explains the ever increasing torque.

So, its realy a 15.5+ psi with a 420rwhp hp run. Non the less, its still a healthy amount of power with all the problems you guys where having. Get em fixed and back on the dyno! CJ

so... these numbers are at 16psi with a boost leak

16psi with a boost leak is not the same as "13-14psi"

Still good numbers though. Congrats DHalen. Hope you can get all of those problems sorted out soon and get back on the dyno.

What's the methanol worth? 30-40hp over pump gas?

At 15-16 psi its not worth a whole lot. I would say its like having a killer intercooler as we didn't need the extra octane at that boost level. Maybe 15-20 RWHP from the thicker charge. We weren't running particularly advanced timing (It was 16-17* and 12 split at 7k and 15-16 psi).

The difference will come when we start pushing the boost up past whats safe on 91 alone.

I don't think Darren mislead you guys on purpose. We aborted in mid-pull on a couple back to back runs (WAY too rich) and I told him that boost was at 13-14 psi when we backed off. On the later runs when we made it to 7k it continued to climb.

so what good are these numbers on a methanol injected leaking boost car that is creeping to 16psi?

i'd be particularly interested in seeing numbers on a non-methanol car (especially since most of us dont have any first-hand experience with methanol)

I plan on doing a dyno without WI. Then later up the boost and install my 2 stage kit. I am curious to see what hp increases will be obtained from the WI. I will also be running stock ports.

Despite the controversey I am still very excited with the numbers that you put down dhalen. Awesome for even 16psi.

That's pretty damn good... I dyno'd mine at 15psi and i only made 373... I did have a clogged hi-flow cat (i found out later that day) fuel pressure droping and maxing injectors...

It's like every car that get's this turbo has some kind of other problems...

I'm impressed with the numbers though.
