Datalogging when the engine went

5-25-09 Ebisu west circuit

air temp 20c
sunny no overcast

1.4 bar, AFR's 11.5 @ 1 bar tapering to 11.0 at 1.4 bar
timing 8 degrees at 1.4

knock average is less than 15, with one or two spots where it hits 25 (lower RPM's mid load)

when the engine let loose it was at 6700 RPM at 1.38 bar with a knock reading of below 15. AFR's were 11.2

Air intake temps were low to mid 40c water temps 93c solid as well as oil temps of 103~107 (not datalogged just visualed when it died)

knock climbed after the seal let go, EGT's went up as boost fell through the floor.

I will post up either the dat file, or maybe a xls depending upon what the base server lets me upload.

oil temps of 103~107
This couldn't have been helping. On my old FC, my oil temps never got higher than my water temps (factory oil cooler on the 2nd gen is enormous), and that was never more than 210 F (or about 98 C) only after a ton of hard driving like at Deal's Gap. It seems like a lot of boost (20psi) to be running with oil temps that high... what octane were you running? Like straight 98 RON (93ish in US equivalent)? Or did you throw race gas or methanol injection in?

Remember that the knock sensor is in the front rotor housing and it is usually the rear rotor that runs leaner (especially with the stock FD intake manifolds) and is more prone to knock through detonation or pre-ignition. And high oil temps could contribute to pre-ignition. Was it the rear rotor that blew? Maybe the rear rotor knocked, the knock sensor didn't pick it up until after compression was lost and the engine started running rough?

If you have to, go into Excel and cut out a bunch of cells in the .txt log to keep the size down so you can post it up.
