Dad and I are going SingleT, which exhaust manifold?

For those of you who don't know, my dad owns a 1993 fd and I own a 1989 t2. Well he is fed up with the stock twins not working right, and he currently has a blown motor. I just want more power. Anyhow we are both going to get a To4s we think. Now I really don't have **** for options when it comes to the FC, while he has much more it seems. Anyhow I was originally planning on the log style cast unit made by HKS. I think he wanted a much nicer SS one. Well I was on NP last week and I seen a new manifold someone is selling and we were both wondering if they look any good, my dad is definatly interested as its much cheaper than the SR unit he was origally looking at getting.

That is an ebay manifold.. it is junk. That is why it is cheaper. Okay... now someone is going to say, I don't know what I am talking about, except I have on shitting on a shelf in my room, because it is junk and I can't put it on my car.

Go quality, you don't want to be taking **** off when it breaks, because it is more of a pain in the ***.

What would you recommend for quality units for both our cars and what kind of prices are we talking about? I don't think you read that entire thread, to me it seemed like that was not the same as the ebay units, someoen posted a picture of a Obx? or maybe some SSautchrome something and it was I guess not the same? Anyhow what should we get?

I actually have a ton of experience with the ebay manifolds. I use one myself and I have put a couple on other cars. If you do the required work to make these manifolds useable they are absolutely fine. It does take a bit of work though and is a pain in the ***. The ones from that thread are not the same as the obx...I was the one who posted the picture. They are a very close copy of them...I don't give a crap what the poster of that thread says....he claims that his use thicker gauge steel which I can't confirm from pics but what I can tell is that his flanges are thicker....the engine flange is actually not even the same shape if you look closely, and his inlets are smooth, while the obx and ssautochrome manifolds are not so smooth. personally I would recommend doing exactly what I did, which is use an ssautochrome one and reweld the welds, brace that sucker nicely, mill the flanges if needed, and relocate the required bolt holes...It will save you a few hundred bucks and give you a nice working manifold.

I would definitely go Stainless Steel if you want it to last a long time. As for quality, there are quite a few good manifolds out there. I've seen the SS Autochrome manifold and it does look like it needs quite a bit of work. Some people on the forum used them as is and they didn't last long. YMMV.

BTW, I have an original HKS Stainless Steel manifold for sale; its a short one that allows closer setting of the turbo to the back of the engine bay. It's a T4 flange and was installed with a TO4R turbo. Attached is a picture. It has been barely used; I bought it from someone in Japan.

Normally these go for about $800 to $900, I'm going to be selling this one for $650 plus shipping.

If you're interested, please PM me.

Since I don't have a welder or the know-how on how to use one, should I just get that unit? I mean according to what you said I should use the cheap ones and fix them, right? But if that other guy basically has the same one, but a lot better then for me I should just get it. I looked around a little and it seems that most places will make me a custom one for around $1000 or I can buy the HKS SS divided for," 800-900". Seems the best choice for me is to buy that unit on np. Are there any other units I am missing? My dad is also in the same boat basically, I have no idea what he should do.

if you want longevity. . . get the cast unit. go with xs or hks. these are great units. . . but if you want something nice, go with the tubular ss manifolds. . . the only problem with those is that youll end up spending a ton of money on them.

weigh your horsepower goals against your reliability goals and figure it out. id assume you want some reliability based on your thread and the fact that youre getting a 60-1.

Hey how's life in sunny AZ? Sorry to hear about your mechanical troubles, guess you couldn't get your car tuned before the trip?

The link is where I got my turbo manifold from, great guys and very knowledgable on rotaries. Their price for a custom SS divided one for an FC is only $500. I sprung a little extra to have it HPC coated like my turbo and it was still lots cheaper than the one El is making. His does look nice, though. All depends on what you have to spend and how long you want to wait.

After gauging interested on 3 other boards where I was authorized to do a GB, it doesn't look like there is enough interest to do one here, where I have foot a bill.

What is that, an FC and an FD manifold? The FC one on the left? They look great!
