Have you ever run into and issue of a stock intake (FD, RE, ect.) becoming the absolute weak link in a setup? I'm just wondering exactly how soon it becomes an issue, what it would look like on a dyno sheet when it becomes overwhelmed...

I wouldn't say we have, we've hit around 800whp +/- depending on what we were trying on the RE, I'm not sure it would look like anything really significant. I'm sure either car could have made more with a different manifold/TB setup. Just at that point in time that's what the customer was willing to use. Once you cut open and clean up a RE upper it is not a bad piece.

Is the RE UIM, once cleaned up, a better option than a REW UIM (Cleaned too)?

Made this for my 12A. Built with tuned lenght runners, and bellmouths inside. Cheapo 90mm Ebay TB. The plenum itself is detachable, so other size plenums could be tried.. Made 506 RWHP, at 16psi.

Haven't tried it with a FD one as much as the RE one. I can't give you a honest assessment.

more crisp response
quicker spool times

is it considerable difference in those? ie 1/4 mi differences or dyno curve differences?

Ernie, That's an interesting design. It would definitely cut costs down for building one completely from scratch. What does the inside of it look like, if you don't mind me asking?

Runners are 1,5 inch. Lenghtwise, i have it written down somewhere, but cant remember where i put the note I used a web based calculator to calculate the lenght of the runners, they can be found floating around the internet.

Thanks BTW, im happy with the way it performs.

TX Here is my 12A intake manifold

Mine is simple to build, I used a gsl-se upper manifold, This will allow me to run e.f.i. on 12A or 13B engine.

RE mani

Here is what Sean was talking about. I had an adapter made to use the REW TB and use the stock linkage and clear oil neck.

Extend port in the inlet, race port on the exhaust. Turbo is a Turbonetics 62-1. It starts boosting at about 3000 rpm, and kinda takes off after that.. Full boost at 4400 rpms. I have never really went beyond 16 psi, it has no boost control, just the two wastegates.

That 3rd picture is mine. I've cut apart and hollowed out every RX-7 manifold that I could find. That one was an S4 TII. Then I reweld them back up. They look completely stock.

wouldn't that eliminate the reasoning behind seperated primary/secondary butterflies though?
