I'm having issues with the stock twins. Not to mention its getting to be close to time to replace them, so I was thinking ...
Maybe go with a smaller single. I only want about 300rwhp. I was hoping to be able to keep as much stock stuff as possible, aka fuel system, maybe even the ecu for a month or two. I don't know how feasible it is. And I know from searching that many of you think its a stupid idea. I'd like to clean up the engine, get rid of the twins complexity, clutter and weight. To risk being flamed even more, I was looking at the SS Autochrome turbo kit. $575 for a turbo kit seems awfully cheap. I know I'd still need a manifold and downpipe. I'll be honest, I don't really understand all the different turbo sizes and openings. I searched for a basic faq on this and couldn't find one. So any information or advice would be great. Please try to limit flaming, I'm not an idiot, just learning. My basic idea right now, with how much I know is, get a manifold, SS Autochrome turbo kit, custom downpipe, keep the stock fuel system, ic and ecu for about 2 months, then move up to Power fc and possibly larger injectors. Basically, I just want moderate power, reliablity and smoothness. I'm ok with some lag as well.

if your looking for 300 rwhp, I highly recommend up grading your fuel system. Also, you absolutely no questions asked need to upgrade your computer and have it tuned for any single turbo conversion. Otherwise the car will run like **** or the motor will blow. If your motor blows it will cost you much more in the long run.

If you're looking for a cheap kit, do this: Get an SS autocrome manifold by itsself, search around ebay for good quality turbos ie: Borg Warner to4b(plenty enough to acheive 350+ rwhp). You can buy all the gaskets, oil lines and fittings for right around the same price of buying their "kit". But you'll have a brand name turbo instead of XS-power. Also, someone sells a custom single turbo downpipe that's made to fit the SSautocrome single kit. It's about 300 total for it.
As far as the stock fuel system, you CAN run your car safely upt about 330 RWHP with a fuel pump upgrade. But still, the injector upgrade with an ECU upgrade would be best.

Igot the turbo that you was talking about. Dont do it. Because i came from China and it bblow in one or two year and you cant use your stock uce what so ever have to have apower fc and fuel upgrade system from rx7store.net too keep it not blowing your eng

Hrm, some of you seem to be forgetting. I don't want a big turbo, I don't want 350+ hp. I just want moderate power and a quick spool. I'd like to get the turbo running in the next like 2 weeks. I don't plan on making any passes. Just trying to get it running so I can move the car reliably. I don't even car if its not tuned 100% right. I'm having issues with the twins and I'd really just rather get rid of them. But from what I'm hearing, I'm better off trying to get them to run normally for this upcoming trip. Any more suggestions let me know, thanks for all the help so far! Oh, and labor isn't a cost for me, I do the work myself, I've got a full garage at my disposal. Full welding shop and all.

Go with rebuit twins from a reputable builder and then am updated ECU (PFC). This will allow you to save the money hassle of a single installation. I have been building a single engine (With toooo many mods and I have been down for months). Keep it simple get rebuilt/updated twins, add a PFC and maybe a updated fuel pump.
Again all of the options listed above are for an engine in good shape.

I think it would be ludicris to pay for a rebuild of the stock twins, with all the clutter you could remove by going single. I'm not afraid of the car as far as working on it. I'm not trying to make 500 hp. I've had it for 2.5 years, and rebuilt the engine once, and replaced it once. I even have the skills to fix the twins as they are, they do have a bit of shaft play, but they boost fine. Its probably just a solenoid problem. But I'd rather take out 95% of the solenoids and all the clutter on that side of the engine by going to a mid size single. Something that could stay in its efficency range providing around 300 rwhp.
I am getting orders soon (in the USMC) to drive cross country. And rather than spend 10+ hours fixing the vacuum mess, I'd rather pull it, put in a single and be careful driving until I can put in a PFC. I'd probably have 1500 miles to drive, till I got home and could put in a PFC. But being all highway, and being in a gas saving mentality, I'm not that worried about boost spiking or running high boost. So, I'll rephrase my question. Does it seem feasible to build a basic SS Autochrome kit, manifold, turbo kit, maybe larger smic, on the stock computer. IF I'm nice to it, keep it low on boost, and use a 8lb spring or something similar. Get back home, and put in the PFC and get it tuned. Then if the injectors need to go up in size, do that then. I fully understand it'd be dangerous to slap on a turbo and race the next day, or something like that. But for just cruising home to get it tuned ...

NO!!!! I my car has that turbo on it now and i cant drive it yet cause i still waitting for my pfc to tune(with any map just for the car to run) which mean after you install the single the car is not driveable. and if you still drive it then you have to say goodbye to you eng...

OK...to answer your question. YES!!!! you can do anything you want with your car!!!!!! Nobody's topping you. Is it safe? NO! But it's apparant you don't care. Is 300hp reasonable? Yes! Is it safe? NO!!!
