Could i know how long its necessary to cool down a dry center T04B during idle?

I don't have a dry T04B. But with my SR KKK I do the following:

-No boost the last few miles before I know I'm going to stop.
-For short stops, I will usually let the car idle for about 2 minutes.
-When I put the car away for the night, usually about 3-5 minutes. (I do that with the hood up and e-fan running to get as much heat out of the engine bay).

 

Get an EGT gauge, and it'll tell you EXACTLY when you can shut the engine off.

Usually about 2 minutes off-boost after boosting in city driving. I would increase that time if you are running the car on a road race track. Driving through a parking lot or residential area off-boost counts for the time, as the engine does not need to be at idle for the turbo center section to cool.



I don't see how EGT is going to tell you anything about the temperature of a fluid bearing in the CHRA. I think an oil temp gauge on the oil return from the turbo, or an IR temp reading of the center housing would be a better indication.

 

That's not the first time I have heard that actually. I was told that I should let my car idle until the EGT's drop to 400C...is that in the ballpark?

 

EGT's is a direct correlation to "engine temperature".
Now, the term "engine temperature" is such a vague phrase, but we are worried about proper cool down.
I realize we are worried about the temps of the turbo (oil), but if the turbo temp is abnormally elevated, it should induce higher than normal EGT's.

For example, my EGT at idle is 480C on a GReddy 60mm P/H EGT gauge.
When boosting hard, the idle will sit as high as 600C - 650C.
I normally wait till the EGT's drop down to at least 500C before shutting the car off.
Now, after boosting hard, it does take at least 1 to 2 minutes before the EGT's start to drop down to 500C, even after hitting as high as 650C.
This seems to be consistent with other cool down procedures...

Two or three minutes of cool down should be plenty. Again it all just depends on how you were driving, evilrotor and evil aviator pretty much hit the nail on the head. Just watch the egt guage and see where it levels off at. The further downstream the egt probe is in the exhaust the cooler the temps you will see.

 

I think it'll outlast the motor IF nothing hits the sensor.
We've had one sensor fail due to debris hitting the sensor and splitting the SS "sheath".

Yes.
On average, the GReddy differs about 40C on downpipe versus turbo exhaust manifold placement.


You should get used to what your EGT would normally show.
Typically, 500C is a good idea temp to shoot for after driving the car hard.
