cold air intake through bonnet?

hey guys i have searched till my eyes are square! can anyone give me a link or know of anyone that has done a cold air intake through there bonnet?

I have a vented carbonfibre bonnet that i plan to paint the same colour as the car before the project ends so i thought if i was gonna cut a hole in it now would be the time! i have been contemplating on how to do my cold air intake.. thought if there was enough room i would make a vent through the bonnet and a cold air intake box that sealed off when the bonnet was closed. any thoughts or pics would be choice

Cheers Mark

I have wondered about this as well. One issue might be high pressure low pressure? The top of the hood might be low pressure and pull air out rather than push it in? You might need to put a scoop that sticks up to make it really work..might be ugly?

Also what about rain?

What about using one of the headlight covers with the built in scoop and ducting the air over to the turbo?

There's at least one other user who has fabricated a duct through the hood. I've asked him to chime in and/or post pictures.

greenweeneer, what's with the triple post?

its not a bad idea but that rain thing would bother me. I guess it depends on what the rain fal is in your are, never been to New Zealand but I live in Arizona in the desert and it still rains here a lot in the summer. The scoop idea would help with this or maybe a removable plate that you can take around with you to cover the hole when weather is an issue. I have a vented hood and thought about making plates like that out of fiberglass and attach it with velcro (or something) to cover it up.

yeah i had though about the rain issue aswell! im sure if i thought about it enough i could work a couple of baffles and some drain holes! where there is a will there is a way the pic above of the vent through the bonnet is there a pic of in the engine bay? like is it just a vent above the airfilter of is the filter enclosed in a box so it can only draw through the bonnet?

I was thinking about a forwards facing scoop so it woould act like a ram air type thing.

i have been told that that would mess with the aerodynamics but surley not enough to cause a prob....
