Clutch/Flywheel

My goal is 375 RWHP (at 320 now) and I need to make the clutch decision soon. Looking at the ACT XT clutch kit. Do I need to do the lightweight flywheel also? My immediate budget is around $500 but I can turn down my boost and make it another month or two if I need to do something different. I'll be doing the work so no labor has to go into this equation... Whats best value wise?

Thanks for the replies!

Shawn

personally i would only get a lightened flywheel if you are going to road race. if the car is strictly for drag racing gettin a lighter fly will just make it harder to launch. it all depends on what you car is going to be used for. the ACT XT will be plenty to hold 375 RWHP.

Actually that's the old theory.....it's been proven that a lighter flywheel and clutch assembly will improve 1/4 mile times. Anything lighter can't hurt.....especially in rotating mass.

ShawnK as far as a good clutch combo.....my choice is Spec. I've had them in my cars for a few years now with no problems at all. I've got the stage 4 w/sprung hub and it's just a little stiffer than stock. My Mustang has one and my girl drives it everyday (she's only 5'1" and weighs 95lbs.) It has a little more rwhp than your looking to make and clamps great with nitrous and slicks.

As for the flywheel, I would definitely go with the lighter one. I've put one on all of my 7's and it makes a big difference. As for the pres plate and clutch however, I would do some more research first. I was going to go with the ACT stuff since that is what most of the guys on the forum recommend and like. However, I spoke to my buddies over at Mazdatrix and they said it was too stiff. i respect their opinion since they drive AND work on their cars. Anyhow, they recommended their street/strip clutch and pres plate. I haven't got the car running yet cuz I'm in the process of installing the single turbo but I'll let you all know once it's on the road.

Merry Xmas,
Tom

I have the XT PP/combo, it's a pain in the parking lot, but nothing really out of this world. just takes a little getting used to.
