boost a pumps?

http://www.msdignition.com/tc_24.htm

i see that as the output voltage goes up, the output amperage goes down. do they all work like that? and dont we want more like 14v@10-12amps?

PM howard coleman, he has been telling me for awhile now that he likes his b-a-p. I've been thinking about getting one.

I've heard the ubiquitous walbro flows quite a bit more fuel at 16 volts, I'm just afraid to try it on my own car, lol. Seems like a better idea than running two pumps with their wiring/tuning/etc issues.

I wonder if anyone is using one of these with a single walbro and pushing it to the 500hp mark. I also have concerns about what BAPs do to the life expectancy of the fuel pump and how much more noise the pump makes being pushed that hard...

I'm willing to bet the exhaust makes more noise.

it seems like a good idea, cause its keeping the voltage where you want it. but is it doing it at the expense of lowering the amperage?

the pump needs volts AND amps to turn...

I may be way off here...

The idea is to increase pressure (or bring it back up and/or keep it constant), this is done by increasing the voltage which causes the pump to spin faster.

In order to the increase the voltage, some of the input amperage is consumed by the BAP and a lower amperage is the result. According to my reading, the input voltage for the pump is more important than the input current. All the flow rates I have seen for fuel pumps only talk about voltage. Is current draw the same at any pump RPM?

So...the lower output amps of the BAP is normal. This looks like a good thing to buy.

I also found some other interesting reads, Kenne Belle says pump life isn't decreased. Don't know if I believe that, if it spins faster, something's gotta wear out right? Even if it is only at certain boost pressures. (Read their PDFs at the bottom of the page)

PS this isn't the only way to do this, you can bypass OEM components with thicker wire and a relay to cause the pump to run at full voltage also. But the BAP seems a better way to go.

I run a Kenne Bell boost-a-pump on my cobra. Basically it bumps the voltage to the fuel pump and achieves a similar effect to hard wiring the pump. The benefit is it comes with a 4 position switch that can boost the fuel pump voltage to 4 different settings including back to stock.
