Blow Off Valve Sounds???
I had the Apex'i twin chamber BOV on my TII. It just sounds like a normal "WHOOSH" No kind of fluttering or chirping. I just swithced over to the Tial 50mm BOV. It's still just the "WHOOSH" sound, but it's a great quality BOV and I'm not worried about compressor surge since I have the rotary friendly spring in it. I do know what sound you're talking about 87RedRX7. The Apex'i BOV won't make that sound at all. Go for the GReddy Type S or the HKS SSQV if you want the "chirping" sounds. Or with the HKS racing BOV if you want that exact fluttering sound. I know a lot of the cars I saw in Japan had BOV's that fluttered like that. But I could never tell what kind of BOV they were running. Damned language barrier!!

Good point Rhode Dog. I forgot all about the interchangeable discs you can buy for different sounds. I have heard rumors of the SSQV failing, but I've NEVER talked to anyone that had it fail on them. From everyone I've talked to it's a GREAT BOV.

i had the apex bov on my turbo 2 fc and it made that "chirp" sound, but only if you set it real tight. that "chirp" sound is compressor surge no matter how you look at it. if you want the best combo, i have a greddy type s bov set pretty tight on my rb25 240sx , and it makes both the "chirping" and the "lazer" sound. imo it really sounds nice.
the rattelsnake sound is caused by the waste gate closing and the blowoffvalve's chamber losing presure....he more hp a car has the louder the snake hisses.....and by the way please dont ever talk about that dredful movie ever again

Monk, I'll be in the Sac area in the next 30 to 45 days. I'm embarassed to admit it, but I have both movies on DVD. You can borrow them and laugh your *** off for free.
I buy every movie that has an RX-7 in it. It's some odd obsessive compulsive thing I have.

I actually enjoyed the first F&F. It's just entertainment.........nothing more. There is fake **** in just about every car movie made.
About blow off valves..........I hate the little high squeeky ones. The make me crazy for some reason. There's some guy in an eclipse that I see in traffic all the time that blows it off next to me just ebout every day.
I hate this guy.
All the ride home.............squeek.........rrrrrrrrrrrrrrr... ....squeek.

That's exactly why I like my Tial BOV. Normal air sound.
Plus I have the satisfaction of knowing that I don't have to worry about compressor surge because I have one of the best BOV's on the market.

Just to clear up some bad info floating around here:
-Flutter sound may be coming from your blow off valve or relief valve. Like many others have mentioned, it's called compressor surge. The valve cannot release all the relief air charge when the throttle plates close and the compressor is still compressing air. It can be related to the vacuum source for the top of the diaphragm.
**It has nothing to do with a cheap or a specific vendor's blow off valve.
-Wastegates vented to open-atmosphere make very loud exhaust sounds. It wouldn't be a subtle "rattler" sound. Wastegates will tend to open up when you're on throttle (probably WOT only).
-The sequential BOV works by sensing pressure difference. So, it can withstand a wide range of boost pressures and not leak, yet still able to provide relief when going off throttle on boost. Sounds nice, but is it worth HKS pricing?
I think the "laser" sound is the "chirp" sound I've grown to hate on my Greddy Type-S BOV. I had a Turbo X Type H BOV that had a nice low key "whoosh" sound.
