Question Blow Off Valve Sounds???

I have a series 4 n/a and a series 5 tII. I am planning to rip the motor out of the tII, rebuild it, port it, race this ****** out but my thing is is that I want the sound of the rattle snake. In 2 Fast 2 Furious the Skyline GTR, when he lets off that throttle and you hear maulty air sounds... the first one is loud then is just dies out but it sounds like a rattle off a rattle snake. Does anyone have this blow off valve or know FOR SURE which one I am talking about? PLEEEEASE write back! Thanks, Kenn

Ohhh wait your serios......

I've not seen fast/furious, and I never want to, but I don't think they have a BOV that makes a "rattle sound", and if there is, it's just because it's a cheap piece of ****, and it flutters, instead of makeing a nice clean "whoooshhhhh".

hey if you want to be taken seriously never use 2f2f in a post. but for the most part I think the BOV your looking for is made by apexi. I had a friend in japan that had an FC while I was rolling a Z. It was silver with a red band is about all I remember. TSH tsh tsh sound.

personally, I just go for the old school HKS one. Just one loud Phooosh sound. That seems to get the point across

Good luck sorting out all the pipe smoking ******* in your life, your going to run into alot of them. Some ppl will actually help you. BTW the help you just received is from an FB'er

Hey, you said it...... Let me quote it here:

I am planning to rip the motor out of the tII, rebuild it, port it, race this ****** out but my thing is is that I want the sound of the rattle snake. In 2 Fast 2 Furious the Skyline GTR

Most every person that I have ever spoken to, that refers to fast/furious in a reality situation IS A JOKE! I even had one kid the other day, tell me putting a cold air intake on his SOHC honda gave him 50 HP..... And setting his idle up to 2500 RPM's took 2/10's of a second off of his 1/4 mile time (he was bragging on a 17.1!)

Well, anyways, I don't have much BOV experience, maybe someone will correct me. But most BOV's that flutter are usually not of the highest quality.

Probably an A'PEXi Twin Chamber or an HKS Super Sequiential will get you the closest to what you are looking for. I've never seen 2F2F, but I have a good idea of what sound you are refering to. (Sonds like a normal "WHOOSH", but slightly "reverberated")

well thanks seanrot and 1revvin. i figured it was the Apexi one but i wasn't sure. i wanted to get the advice from the people i respect more (us, the rotary *****). anyways... i am no honda lovin butt plugger. i was reffering to 2f2f because it is a movie most people have seen and can relate to the sound i desire. and by the way, it wasn't computer animated (sound) into the flick. Go to teamfc3s.org and go under movies and check out the fd smokin a sc'ed thuderbird (thunderchicken). the fd makes the sound i desire and i wanted to find out where i can accomplish this goal by asking my dudes here at rx7club.com. this is the blowoff valve i bought the other day http://www.apexi-usa.com/intake_twinchamberbov.asp THANKS, KENN

the sound you heard in the movie is compressor surge. i have no idea why they would display it in a movie and try to make it sound cool. if you want that sound, then don't run a bov.

and yes, it's hard to take anyone serious when they say they want to be like someone or something in a movie that has gotten nothing but laughed at by the car community

he's talking about the sound the green eclipse made in the first movie. it sounds like that because it is vented to the atmosphere, not back into the intake.

well as far as blow off valves go, what would be a good idea, back in the intake or shot it out in the air? internal or external wastegate? is the dual chamber apexi bov a good buy?

My HKS Super Sequential makes different sounds all the time. When it's not warm it makes a more subdued whoosh sound, but then when it's warm it makes a very high pitch chirp accompanied by a loud whoosh. I think the flutter you are referring to is the sound from a wastegate dumped to the atmosphere, some make the flutter sound. Good luck in your search. Oh and anything associated with the gay Slow and not so Furious sucks my ***. Thanks again
Mike

But why a sequential bov? what is the reason for them? I like that chirp sound.

The Twin Chanber/ Sequential design allows for the BOV to engage and disengage quickly and easily under low boost situations.

You guys are all wrong! It's the Racing HKS Blow Off Valve (the expensive one for $500). I have one on my car and yes, I've seen 2f2f, and it is the exact sound. I've had the Apex twin Chamber BOV and it sounded nothing like the Racing HKS BOV.

that sound was compressor surge. WRC cars do the same but only because they want to maintain maximum pressure, and they have the funds to rebuild everything very frequently. A properly design system wouldn't even require one. Go take a look at the turbo 5.0 guys. A good chunk of them don't use BOV. But that's not really relevant here so i'll shut up now.

OH yeah, shim the Turbo XS Type H BOV real stiff and it'll do the same. Sound that is.

the two different sounds, the "chirp" and then the "whoosh" is because firstly, the smaller chamber of the BOV opens, which gives the "chirp" sound, and then the larger chamber opens. Reason for having these twin chambers is so that it can accomodate for both high and low boost pressures.
