Best oil to run in a street ported 35R

I assume this has been discussed numerous times but I did a search and really found nothing .

Car is a 93 FD has a short block street ported motor running on a aspec 35R KIT. What is the best oil to be running on this setup?

Thanks

Use the same oil that you would otherwise. Look for the "Dino vs. Synthetic" debates to view the differing opinions on them.

Agreed, no need to spend extra money on high end name brands.

Depends on what you plan on doing with the car, and the ambient temperatures you plan on driving in.

If you want to go all gucci than you can get the Valvoline VR1 oil in either 10W-30 or in 20W-50.

I would have to check the left over oil I have down stairs to confirm that this is the same kind.. The one I bought was not for street use (it will clog up cat's) and was blue in color.

Long story short though, heavier or lighter weight in the oil is more dependent on vehicle applications, and less on turbo choice. (The only time that I know of, off the top of my head, where turbo choice dictates oil type is in some of the older BNR Stage 3 twin turbo's. You needed to run Dino (Mineral) Oil with them due to the type of seals that Bryan used.)

i think hes looking for specifics...

personally i run 20w50 for summer as it gets pretty hot( southern Alabama) and( my car feels it, boosting around town with the a/c on for hours at a time).... in the 3 winter months, i run 10w30.

i'm not sure if i'm doing the right thing, but i don't have any issues, and the oil seems to be the same consistancy during winter and summer. although it has 20w50 MOST of the time.

Brand? super-tech.

Personally 10-30 to light for a rotary, even with religious oil changes it breaks down fast from blowby and when you open the motor there's wear on the bearings. 20-50 only stuff that goes in, and rotary warms that oil up quick even in cooler weather

Yea I run the super-tech 2, change it often enough save the $

The best? IMO run Idemitsu synthetic 10w30 in the winter there in Mass. and 20w50 in the summer.

If you want to save some bones, Valvoline VR1 Racing Oil is also a great choice.

You need ZDDP in the oil, and many of the cheaper brands now don't have it unfortunately. Search and there is a ton of info on it.

I do the same as most people here. I run 10w30 in the fall/winter/spring and 20w-50 in the summer.

How many threads are you gonna start about some really simple questions that have been covered 200 times before.
1. Is 3.5" exhaust too much
2. Is gt35r too big for street port rew
3. What oil?
Are you kidding me??

I've started running straight weight oil to combat fuel dilution. I'm running 30w right now. When it gets really hot I will change to 50w. I premix 1:100 so I can tell when to change the oil by how red it gets.

Do you mean marvel mystery oil? And that's only a 20% oil anyways, like Lucas or other additives

The definite answer is:
(1) convert the OMP to its own oil tank filled with Redline Racing 2 cycle oil.
(2) use a premium synthetic oil and if it does not contain a ZDDP package, add it.
(3) even with the OMP, add a good 2cycle oil as premix at about 8 oz per tank.
(4) replace the non original size oil filter that Mazda sells nowadays to a top of the line one that is original size.

I agree with Rich, except that I run Idemitsu 20w50 year round with my FD being garaged 11/1 to 4/1.
