best apex seals for boost?
I in the middle of a rebuild and wonder which apex seals to go with. I'm putting a 60-1 on in a few months. I was told to use the atkins 2 peice seals by a friend but when I looked at them the say they are rated to 14psi max. From what I gather the 60-1 runs the best between 14 to 16 lbs. What seals do you guys run with?

Your best bet is to do a search. I use stock apex seals. They seal the best and make the most power. I've ran 25+psi on them. Demetrios K. has pushed over 30psi on them. They hold up very well.

I agree with ernieT, stock are the best.. I didnt know that you could make more power with them though, is it because of wieght differences with 3mm??? Dont use herly seals

I will add in my 0.2c worth and say that you will not have any problems with 2mm stock seals.
I think they work great and have the best "bang for buck" value out of any seal available.

I think before this turns into another war, we should all read the original post. Looking at his requirements it would be hard to argue against the stock 2mm seal, they have been proven to ridiculous lengths (both boost and BHP) so he will have no problems with what he wants to achieve.
I think Judge Ito uses 2mm Atkins, you may want to PM him to ask his advice in relation to these versus stock 2mm seals.
Either way I think you will be fine in your choice between these two

746W = 1 hp
Therefore .746KW = 1 HP
466 times .746 is 347.636, a nice number indeed!

You had me fooled for a second.
But after cracking open another Guinness, I thought about it. Here's a simple check: One KW is smaller than one HP. Therefore, the KW figure will a larger number than the HP figure.
And that means.... wait a tick, one KW is *larger* than one HP.
I've been had.
Time for another bottle...

i was goona say wtf, because jap cars are all rated at 206kw or 276hp. So kw are more powerful than hp.
so 1hp = 0.746KW
so yes, 466KW is around 620hp.
624.66/ 0.746 = 466kw
so 1hp = 0.746KW
so yes, 466KW is around 620hp.
624.66/ 0.746 = 466kw

back on the thread subject.......
I read a post the other day where someone had aftermarket seals installed and his motor failed pre-maturely. The finding was that the aftermarket seals expanded more (than the stock ones) when they got hot and therefore seized up in the rotors. However, it was said that they were 3mm seals and the builder probably clearenced them to factory spec. They should have clearanced it bigger. Anyhow, I'm expecting 400hp to the wheels and I stuck with the stock ones too. 3mm creates too much friction and you are taking the chance the rotor grooves may not be sized correctly (like the guy I just mentioned), either too big or too small. And lastly, if you have all these other guys hitting 600+ hp with them, then it proves the fact that it's all in the tuning.
Oh yeah, and remember that a harder metal is also more brittle. My bud over at Mazdatrix was telling me that they broke the ceramic seals in their race car (that runs nitrous) so they ALL will break if pushed incorrectly.

Ok, new question. Are the stock seals in a 87 TII 3 peice or 2 peice, and are the 87's susposed to have helper spings on the apex seals?
I tore mine down and I have two peice seals and no helper springs?
