Hey guys, im working to piece together all the parts for my single turbo conversion and
I have a question re the turbo coolant lines.

Im just wondering, is there any reason to use a banjo bolt over a threaded barbed hose tail for the fitting that connects to the turbo for coolant?

Bajo bolts = like $20 each or something, and a threaded hose tail is like .50c..

Is there any reason not to use the hose tail & some decent hose clamps?

Using a barb hose connection can work perfectly fine, as long as you use fittings with the proper thread, and appropriate hose.

Keep in mind the "neighborhood" these hose connections are in. Attached to the biggest radiant heat source under the hood. If you use regular coolant hoses, you'll find they won't last.

Also worm gear style clamps don't yield with expansion, and over time extrude the hose material from under them resulting in loose connections and leaks.

Fuel injection style hose clamps or Oetiker clamps perform best. I like Aeroquip Starlite hose or an equivalent.

Banjo bolts work well in tight spaces.
For example is the Banjo bolt that FFE sells for thier rails.
Earl's makes a Fitting that is a banjo fitting to -6 AN.

I'm using push lock 90 degree in my 14mm to -6AN adapter fittings(aftermarket turbo).The hose is HI pressure Fuel hose.

 

Off the shelf fuel hose from the parts store doesn't like coolant applications. Over time it becomes rock hard from the heat.
