AVC-R Setup / weird E6K problem-- Help!
I recently borrowed an AVC-R from a friend (thanks Aristo!) and started hooking it up today. I ran across a few problems, however.
First off, I've got a 1990 TII with a Haltech E6K running things. When I hooked up the purple wire (injector / rpm input) to one of the primary injectors, all hell broke loose. Maybe this was related to pulling the intake manifold off the car, but either way, when I started it up this is what happened:
I ran MUCH leaner than before (at low throttle). Trying to free rev to 2k or so just didn't work (running ~18:1!!), and idle was too lean as well. This problem ended up persisting even after disconnecting the wire, so I just retuned the car in vacuum (oh well...). When I had the purple wire connected (to the injector), the rpm was first about 1/2 of what it should be, so i changed the # cylinders to 2, which put it spot on. About 30 seconds later (revved it a few times), it changed again! I switched it back to 4cyl mode, and it read OK for about a minute, before reading incorrectly again. Also, every time I stepped on the gas, the rpm displayed on the AVC-R jumped (regardless of whether the engine rpm stayed relatively constant or not). It looked like the throttle pump was influencing the pickup?
Then, I hooked up the TPS wire (tapped into it). When floored it only reads ~63% (pretty much useless), and there apears to be no way to adjust this???
This has been a massively frustrating day! lol. Can anybody help me figure out where to tap into things? I need an rpm sensor, a speed sensor, and the TPS needs to work if at all possible. Also, if anybody knows what could be up with the haltech, please let me know! Occasionally it will start idling at 11:1 (instead of the 13.5 i have it set for). This happens sometimes when under light throttle as well. Usually a quick blip of the throttle brings it back into line. when this is happening, the injection time display in the Haltech Data page cycles between ~2.25 ms (what the map value is) and about 3ms (NO idea where that comes from).
Thanks very much,
Manolis

Forgot to mention one thing: the engine only ran leaner under vacuum conditions -- once into boost (believe me, i did this GINGERLY), the AFR was spot on.... (WTF?!)

I have an AVCR and an E6K, I will check out my connections in the morning, and post them. I did not encounter any problems at the initial set up, but I am not the tuner, so I will be able to tell you what is hooked to what but that's it. Carl Byck

Hey guys, I got the RPM signal figured out (HAILERS mentioned in another thread <lots of searching > that there is an rpm test lead under the trailing coil). That's working now . I'm looking at the cruise control setup at the moment (luckily i left the computer in when i removed the actuators, etc. during the Haltech install / engine swap), hopefully I can get a speed output from that.
I'll update in a bit!

Don't go tearing them apart on my account I think i got things working more or less OK actually. The speed output I got from the cruise control box, and it gives a reading. While on average the speed reading seems correct, it jumps around a lot (any ideas here?)
Thanks guys,
