apexi rx6 dead? anything bolt up to it... help oil problem..

Okay, here's the story guys. I realize now that this a problem with the turbo somewhere. It's an rx6 on a 94. I first saw white smoke coming out at idle and under heavy engine rpms... Now I realize tht when I take my foot off the gas, oil blows out from the bov... I also noticed oil in the air intake portion of the turbo when I took off the filter. THe turbo spools to a full 15psi quickly, but I have lots and lots of white smoke, and I'm losing oil pretty fast. The setup s new, with about 8k on it, and so is the engine (8k, ported, 3mm, etc, etc if it matters..)

Could this be a problem with oil returning from the turbo? as this line was cracked so Io had to replace it. And ideas on how to save my turbo? (I can't afford another one quite frankly.)

If I have to replace it, are there any other turbos that bolt up to the rx6's manifold? (the cheap route...)

Thanks guys for all your help,

Rob

by the way, i have heard people say something about an oil restrictor pill for the rx6. I don't think i have one (none of the fittings look like one), can someone post pics? (maybe i'm just blowing too much oil through it?)

What original (from the A'PEXi kit) parts do you have in the turbo's oil circuit, and what have you replaced?

A restrictive drain can lead to oil leaking into the intake tract.

Or too much supply. The fitting on the turbo center housing, or the one between the Mazda hardline and the A'PEXi SS hose might have the restrictor in it.

the oil resictor isnt a pill but actually its a an fitting. it is the part that connects the oil feed line to the turbo itself. on my rx6 its a blue fitting. if you take it off it has a tiny hole in the bottom. that is what restricts the flow. if you wanna buy one the is only one place.....apexi japan! i waited like 4 months for one. it cost $12 and there is no way to get it cheaper. it was a special order part and even apexi usa had a really hard time getting it. if you find out that you need one call Mas at apexi usa...hes the guy that helped me get the fitting so he should know what you are talking about if thats what you need. i can see if i still have the old email with the part number also.

let me know

john

hey, does it have a nipple coming out of it with a smaller hole? I think i've got one of those (mine is silver.... with a dimple in the side..

Could this be due to excess crackcase pressure? The engine oil is high now (to the top of the hatched area on the dipstick). Should I remove the hose from the top of the oil fill neck to see if it stops it?

Thanks,
Rob.

PS- oil pressure seems fine.. not too high or too low...

okay.. new input... it only smokes when it's idling... Never when the engine is under a load... Any more ideas? I know it's flowing through both sides of the turbo (out the intake, exhaust, and through the manifold side). Any ideas what this could be?

Does it still smoke if you remove the oil filler cap?

any idea on how to test, what would cause, or how to fix that?

THanks again. If I take the oil cap off when the car is running, won't oil spew from it?

the wierd thing is that i see the oil seeping through the turbo itselt and i see it all in the intercooler and piping. This makes em think that it is something to do with the turbo and not the engine.

Anyway, thanks for all of your help!

Rob, I went through something very similar and it turned out to be my engine........excuse me......Garbage Hayes engine. It was a combo of coolant seal failure AND oil seal failure. I ruled out my turbos when I disconnected the IC piping and drove my car around a few blocks and let it idle. Tons of white smoke. If you do a search you'll see a huge thread on my engine probs. Not saying that it's your engine......hopefully it's not.
