Anyone know of a boost activated cutout?

I was wondering if anyone know's of a boost activated exhaust cutout? All I can find are the electric ones. I'd like to get one and set it up to open at 18psi of boost.

yo stephen,

would you want to set it that high? it wouldn't give you any sort of spool benefit or midrange power. i would think maybe a little less, like 10 psi or something.

Does the PFC have any outputs, like my haltech does? You could do it that way, i think.

i guess you could run another MAP sensor, and set something up that would trigger a relay above a certain voltage and would open up the electric cutout.

You could buy a pressure switch to activate one of those electric cut-outs. They usually make contact at a specific pressure. As $150FC mentioned, you could also use a pressure sensor and a few electronic parts to make the turn-on point adjustable.

Yea, right after I made the thread it dawned on my that all I need is a pressure switch. I think I'm going to got one and install it into my dp.

The reason I want to set it up for a real high boost is so I dont hear it all the time. I'll prob set my boost 1-2 psi under the point that the cut out will open so I dont hear it when just driving around, its going to be SUPER loud.

Also, I dont think my RB is a restriction till around the 17-18psi of boost range. I'm going to put it on the dyno and see how much difference it makes once I finish everything.

If you used a wastegate actuator to open the cutout you could have it open at 7 lbs (or more, if you squashed the actuator) and it would probably open more gradually than the electronic versions. Definitely cheaper.

I dont want it to open gradually, thats why I'm not going that route. I want my car to remain quite all the time then when I need to race I'll turn the boost up 1-2psi so that the cutout will open. In addition the cutout will have to be tuned cause it will greatly effect the a/f. If its only open at 17psi then thats all the retuning I need to mess with so it makes it easier to tune this way

Actually, that gives me an idea.
Electric Cutouts are generally slow to open (2-3 seconds or so).
Maybe you could put a Wastegate behind your turbo to open up at whatever psi you'd like, just T off another line from your intake manifold and find a spring to suit your needs, a wastegate would open much faster than a electric cutout. Just have it dump to atmo Mucho Loudo.
