Question Anyone ever use a T3/T4 on a FD?

Now that my twins are leaking oil AGAIN, the time for a single turbo is near. I'm just curious as to the characteristics of a T3/T4 hybrid turbo on a rotary. I know the T04E is usually the smallest anyone really talks about, but I wonder if you could get similar power but with quicker spool up from the hybrid. I don't want a dyno queen. I like the responsiveness of the stock turbos but still want a little more power. Can so many Honda owners be wrong? (Yes.)

Sure, you can put it on your FD.

Max boost at idle and you would top out at 3000RPMs or so.

a T3/T4 hybrid will be a little too small for the amount of air that the rotary pumps out. instead of piecing together a kit, which could save you money but requires a lot of customizing and fabrication, i would go with a proven kit such as an Apex RX-6 or T04E. these turbos are the quickest spooling turbos on the market, and will give you some pretty nice power increases as well.

a pair of T3/T4 hybrids would be good, you'd need a heftily modified T3 exhuast housing to be able to flow enough exhuast gas, a good sized turbo for a 13B runs a 70-75mm exhuast turbine wheel

most T3 turbine sides are similar to the stock T2 exhuast housings

Silly question for you guys.

I'm just going by from what the previous owner had said..

It is a single turbo conversion and he said that it was a t3/t4 hybrid.
Now what would be the outside dia. of the intake and exhaust side housings just so I could verify it if it is a t3/t4.

Also u guys might be able to help me out too.. According to him he had a Fuel cut defenser installed... Now I notice that stores don't sell them for FDs just FC... please shed some light into this.

thanks

Well first of all... you're sure it's an FD right? They don't make FCD's for FDs because their computer system is totally different than an FC. Does it have an air flow meter of some type before the turbo? That's an FC system. A single turbo on stock computer FD would probably detonate the first time you saw manifold pressure because the computer isn't expecting all the airflow and doesn't supply enough fuel. (my peeve with speed-density electronics... save it for another thread though)

And now, if you don't mind me asking, how well does it run? I recall another guy here who said his car was converted to single with a Buick GN turbo. I thought those were T04s but I recently discovered that they're T3 "Super 60"s compressors and .63 A/R exhaust, but the guy said it had full boost by 3500 (!).

With a restrictive exhaust (both the turbo and the rest after it) it might run close enough to stock airflow rates that the computer doesn't lean out badly. But that's still weird, why put a T3/T4 on when it's the exhaust side that you need to open up first?

Well guys I have both an NA FC 90 gxl and 93 FD.

Well it drove fine to me (but probably got blind sided as soon as I found out that it had a single conversion done to it.) Boost around 3200 rpm and I can't really remember when I hit full since it is set at 7psi only.

Its in storage right now with flooded engine ( I think) coz of a leaking gasket between the manifold and turbo.. So the car would run extremely rich to a point where my eyes would hurt bad.

I knew about the FCD on FCs before. Thats why I thought it was good that they had installed that. Silly me not knowing that FDs have MAP while I knew that FCs had an AFM.

So more questions then..
I will try to find the FCD in my car and follow the thick wire leading to it, If it is a FCD should I take it out coz I don't have any idea on how they installed it if it was never meant for the FD?.

Second I was hoping that you guys could give me some baseline to measure my turbo and to find out excatly what size it is.

thanks alot.
and keep pouring in the info pls.

Well if they don't make FCD's for 93+ RX-7's, they must just appear like magic because they exist and they are sold!

Really, there are FCD's for FDs, a friend of mine has one. I know Greddy makes them, I think HKS might as well.
