Thumbs up Air to Liquid Intercoler

Hi all , after a very unfortunate incident which happened the day before my dyno appointment , caused by a faulty power steering rack , I have decided to change some stuff. I have since decided and have already bought all the components to convert to air to liquid intercooling. The IC is a claimed 1500 cfm dual core one , measuring 17X12.2X4.5 with a core measurement of 10x12.2x4.4 and 3.5" Inlet/outlet. The front mount radiator is made for this purpose and is rated at 1200hp.It it is a two core double pass unit measuring 26x7x3.5 with a core of 24x7x3.5.It will be used with two (or three) Spal 6.5" cooling fans. The water pump is a bosch Cobra used in a couple oem applications. The operation of the fans and the water pump will be handled bu my ECU and would be done based on boost , intake temperature and I/C water temperature . I will follow up with pics of the install and data logs of the various temperatures.

Question Steerung Rack?

Sounds like you have the set up all figured out and I hope you'll be up and running soon.

Can you share some more details about your "steering rack" incident?

Sure , since my last start up , i've been fighting with a number of oil leaks . The leaking oil got all over the steering rack bushings , which quickly resulted in their demise , so when I turn , the rack slides about 1/4" first , then the wheels begin to turn !!

Nice work, I've got the same I/C and heat exchanger on my FC. I like the way you have the IC mounted!

Just finished mounting everything else this past weekend. What kind of fuel are you running for those numbers? Or are you using AI?

Hey , thanks ! I am still not done yet , I waiting on some AN fittings to finish it up , I cant wait to see how the system works. I will be using everyday 95 RON pump gas , and yes I do have a three nozzle two staged WI system installed.

I'm waiting for data, the recent movement back to W:A is interesting to me. So far I haven't seen data to justify it in most cases.

i'm running a pwr barrel on my fc, when it was aprox 100 degrees in the dyno building i was having at most 112 degree intake temps on factory twins at 12 psi.

that was fall of last year, is converted to single and will be running e85, no pics of that yet. the coolant pipes are now bent pipes

what water pump are you guys using, heat exchanger, and how many gallons of water?
*i have a industrial pump from a local surplus store
*cobra heat exchanger
*aprox 7-10 gallons of water, using a 5 gallon fuel tank in the rear of the car and running 3/4" hose to the front.

edit: this was when i just wanted the car to run and beat the **** out of it before winter, the engine bay looks much better now.

Unfortunately I won't have any back-to-back data from my A:A intercooler, since it was a different turbo setup and all.
However, I like the idea of shorter intercooler piping, significantly less pressure drop, basically eliminating heatsoak and the ability to add ice to your water reservoir and get intake temps possibly even below ambient (I'd like to see that out of a C02 IC sprayer...)

And from a physics point of view, I think it's fair to say that the heat transfer coming from aluminum to water should be much higher than that of air to aluminum.
