That’s cool. I saw something a few years ago about the same concept. I think it was a guy from Boeing or GE talking about air bearings in aircraft engines. The concept was that they could defeat the current RPM threshold associated with standard ball bearings and virtually eliminate friction.

what about eclectically assisted turbos? I have read about them before, but have never really seen any results. Seems like it would be incredibly beneficial, because it would allow you to shape the powerband however you please, without any lag. The motor could also act like its own wastegate, as well as a generator, using the motor load as a boost regulator.

Electrically assisted turbos would only reduce lag. Running wastegate-less would be cool though.
