act 6 puck clutch question
im looking into a hd pressure plate and 6 puck sprung act clutch kit for my fc . im getting a deal on it but i want to make sure it can hold up for my power goal of 400whp -450whp . car will only see drag / and highway . im not sure if i wanna get the extreme pressure plate to drive it around . i ahd a act street disk / hd plate on my bnr stg 4 set up . i loved it never sliped once no matter how many beatings i gave it. let me know if any one else is running act 6 puck on thier fcs . thanks
You'll be fine. I have the same clutch on a stock flywheel and I'm pushing 810 to the wheels. It has over 6000 miles of being beat (putting a new disc in since its finally starting to let go, going with the same 6 puck). I also have over 60 dyno runs between a mustang dyno (Steve Kans at PRT Performace & a dyno jet).
Also, I run Nitto 555R on back measuring 305/35R18's and a Kazz 1.5 way diff. No issues and these tires hook.
Only problem I have is breaking stock transmissions, more specifically I shear third gear completely. That's the gear I mainly use to run people in, have yet to use 4th gear for a run besides on the dyno.

Yes, I have run the Sprung 6 puck and HD pressure plate for many many years on my FC with BNR Stage 4. I put down 340rwhp @12psi boost and then 380rwhp@14psi and the clutch was holding fine when I was running 17psi boost (over 400rwhp).
I am very abusive with it- lots of 2-3-4 flat shifts against the rev limiter.
275/40-17 NT01 tires.
3rd gear eventually went in the transmission after some roll on wheel spin/hook back up, but the clutch was fine.
I did try 5k rpm 2nd gear clutch dumps for launches a couple times because it had no traction in 1st, but it did slip doing this down to 3k rpm and grabbed again.
Only complaint I had with it is the engagement is fairly abrupt, so it is hard to get really smooth starts without revving the engine up a bit (so when trying to be quiet and subtle like).
And if you do slip it a lot (like 2nd gear launches) it will really put heat into the pressure plate friction surface.
I put a Exedy sprung twin plate in my FD and it is a bit more refined. I would guess its because of more friction surface and less pressure plate force.
I say go with a quality full diameter sprung twin disk for the street if you can afford it.

Speaking as an N/A person, I'm having a lot of trouble with breaking the clutch fork pivot ball, and the clutch fork after reinforcing that, with ACT pressure plates. When it first happened, the hits I got were mostly for Turbo II guys.
I think the problem with TII guys breaking clutch fork pivot ***** is with the extreme pressure plate and exxxtreme pressure plate or however they call them.
I just replaced my clutch fork and pivot and front cover when I put the the clutch in and again when I replaced the disk as a precaution with the HD.
