60-1 HiFi to 60-1 T04S?

I have a friend I can get a 60-1 HiFi from for fairly cheap. I know its not the ideal turbo but would it be possible to upgrade just the compressor housing to a T04S. I guess I was not sure if they clipped the compressor in order to fit it in a smaller housing. Also how would a HiFi compare to a T04e 60?

normally you can, the backing plate to a t04e (hifi) and to4s are the same, but it will pay to have a turbo specialest fit it to make sure there is enough clearance. they work with only .5mm of clearance so theres not much room for error. You may need to be prepared to buy a new backiing plate also.

my turbonetics catalog show the 60-1 flow over 20% more than the 60trim t04e.

a new 60-1 is like 6-700

it'll probably cost ~3-400 to "upgrade" the other one because they'll probably rebuild it when they swap the plates and housings out. so if the turbo is $2-300, go for it. otherwise, just run it like it is. a hifi isn't all that bad. you can still get 400+whp out of it.

if you want much more than 400 to the wheels, you shouldn't be thinking about b-rated stuff. just spend the money and get what will work best.
