My friend bought a jdm engine and he was told that it has a Mine's ecu. It has a single turbo, external wastegate, and it came with papers saying that it's a complete Mine's engine/tranny package dynoed at 460 whp. It didnt come with a map sensor, so what can we do? Will any 3 bar sensor work? Also will he need a fuel pump upgrade?

 

I was also wondering what would be the best bet for an intercooler?

 

I forsee a rough idle in someone's future....

AFAIK, mines don't do transmissions for FD - at least they don't now (I don't recall ever hearing about one). In fact, AFAIK, they haven't done much at all for FDs since the early 90s.

Their ecus aren't flexible - they are set for a particular package. Your best bet would be to dump the rom and fit and tune a pfc. This is what most of the skyline boys do ('finding' a mines ecu isn't that uncommon with skyline imports) - IMO, it's even more important in the case of an FD.

Check that the fuel pump hasn't already been upgraded (r34 GTR unit is a common swap-in for japan - but if the setup is as old as it sounds...). If it hasn't, start shopping.

As for intercoolers - get the best you can afford. I assume we are talking about wa, australia? If so - I'd be looking at a nice chunky v-mount, such as the HKS.

We ordered an intercooler this morning, we are looking into a fuel pump but we dont know what we need to flow enough fuel to feed this engine. We have a few walbro 255's sitting around,would one of those work?We just picked up a dsm also and were hoping to use one of the walbro's in it. Also we are kind of skeptical on the whole mine's package thing. It doesn't really seem authentic. The motor came with some cool parts 3" stainless downpipe, hks wastegate, garrett T4, lightweight flywheel and 3 puck race disc, cast single turbo manifold. We dont know how to check the size of the injectors, so thats another mystery. This is the first Rx-7 we have ever worked on so we are going to take our time and try to do it right.

 

Do you know where I could get the pfc software so I can fiddle around with it?

 

um, you cant just fiddle around with a mines ecu with pfc software. in fact you cant really do anything with the mines ecu, also unless its custom tuned for this particular setup, your car will probably run rich and not very well at all (like most mines after market "plugins") also take regard that its a jdm spec engine tuned to japanese fuel, which means 100/110 ron, something that you cant just buy from your local servo.
