44 vs 46mm TIAL wastegate

I heard that the Tial 44mm wastegate flows better than the 46mm ... Is that true ?

For a rotary application, should I use a 44 or 46mm tial wastegate (T-66, 12-16psi, street/road racing use) ???

Thanks alot for your help !!!

For some reason, it is true. I have the Tial 44mm with my GT42R. The Supra guys all have went with this wastegate too.

the super heat of the rotarys won't damage it ??? on the tial website, it says that the 46mm is made from heat resistant materials for hi exhaust temp ...... (http://www.tialsport.com/prod_wg_46.htm)

anybody had any problems with their 44mm tial wastegate ????

I spoke to the president of TiAL about this. From memory he said the 44 outflows the 46 because of the valve design. The 46 body is made out of inconel and the 44 is not. However, the diaphram for both is made out of the same material and from what I have observed that seems to be the first thing to go. The other big difference between the two is the 44mm is a v-band wastegate. This makes it much easier to mount/dismount and gives you more options when welding it into the exhaust system. I bought a 44mm for my single turbo 2 rotor and was very happy with it. The HKS 60mm gate I have for my 20b project is about 1/2 the quality and 2x the price.

Carlisi, hit it on the head, if you see the two side by side you would see the difference. The port area is actually larger on the 44mm also. I have used 44mm on rotaries since they were introduced with no failures as of yet. Tial will be releasing their 60mm very soon for those who think size matters

They are both very nice, and I would expect the 46mm to work fine (barring any severe problems with the basic WG runner design in the manifold, in which case the 44mm probably wouldn't work either). On the plus side, the 46mm might dissipate heat better, keeping the diaphragm cooler. I've owned a 46mm, but sent it back when I discovered that an HKS was an easier replacement for my failed A'PEXi wastegate on my RX-6 kit. I have a 44mm in my current setup and it has worked just fine. I love the design and quality of the TiAL stuff -- it seems to be the nicest equipment available and yet the prices are lower than their competition in many cases.
